Thanks for the headsup. The original bushes were made from a material called Tufnol. What are your new bushes made from? The relay can be a bit of fun to play with, that spring is powerful and needs respect! BTW, how is your '53 80" coming along? If you need any details on what goes where, or close up images, I would be delighted to check it out on my fairly original '53 for you, Mike 5380

With that type of shaft you clamp the bottom bush in place with a hose clip, then fit the spring & put a pin through the oil hole & wind the spring down over the pin . You can then clamp the top bush in place & remove the pin . Then it is only a matter to press / knock the shaft assembly into the housing & fitting top & bottom plates.

Spot on! That's the way I did mine and it worked well!
