After reading the latest threads and realising I have been conversing with some of you guys for longer than should be deemed sensible , seeing some of you slowing down and others having health issues , plus many celebrating 35-40+ years of married life , It leads me to wonder.
Do we have a young upcoming brigade joining Aulro?
Is is still us old farts buying the new Defender/Discovery/Range Rovers?
Are we buying these things with our childrens' inheritance (hahaha)?
Should we be encouraging our "children" to buy a Land Rover and join Aulro?
And Inc, you're one of us......who's going to drive in the future?

From memory, there was a fair range of ages at the 70th Anniversary, in Goomeri.
As for younger buyers, I think it would depend on who their 'Influencers' are re: PC and shade of Green. [wink11]

To me the problem is that LR have gone steeply up market in The last say 20 years so that the buyers are equivalent to BMW buyers in many instances.
So now many are bought on maintained leases and the owner never looks under the bonnet or checks the oil level until bang!
The young blokes buying older LRs are the enthusiasts but now they are thin on the ground.
Also the "driver aids " in new LRs discourage drivers from attending courses as the car will do it for them.
I must say that as an old fogey I am often surprised at some of the questions asked on the forum that a reasonably aware and competent driver/owner should educate themselves about.
Regards PhilipA
BTW I have been married almost 53Years, what does that make me.( no prizes for "stupid")

You did come to mind when the younger Land Rover owners were mentioned, ED and like you, I do prefer the forum to Facebook.
Could it be generation drivel, perhaps? Sorry, generation driven.

I really think that the only reason anyone is on fb is because they think everyone else is and they might miss out on something.
Both are fallacies.

Growing old is compulsory, growing up is optional.

H'yup!
I look and read only, Jerry. I have to say that it does get annoying sometimes, when I jump on my Faecesbook account and I'm inundated with Land Rover 'Buy, Swap and Sell' items. [tonguewink]

Both my daughters (19 and 16) have a desire to drive Jeeps, this may be influenced by making them ride from Airlie beach to Yass in two days in the back seat of a 130, however the real reason is that a functional and capable Wrangler can be had for 10 - 15K which is within their price range. If we had a huge number of unloved Defender 90s then a Land Rover might have been on their list but they don't see disco's as being a young person's car. Most of their mates drive various Japanese Utes and aspire to own Landcruisers.
Similarly to 4wd clubs there are only a small proportion of the population that are interested enough to participate on forums and some of that is attributable to a desire to seek knowledge which is usually associated with maturity.
Add into the mix the constant technology change that has seen forums such as this replaced by inferior Facebook groups and who knows what the next generation will use to communicate? (I'm not thinking Tik Tok is a reliable source of Land Rover information)
I'm on a Jeep forum and it has not fared nearly as well as AULRO over the last few years but much of the traffic has moved to Facebook where historical info tends to blink out pretty quickly, AULRO is a real credit to INC and the mod team.

It can be beneficial in a couple of ways. I have eight friends, one of which resides in the UK, and 'Messenger ' is a handy way to keep in touch with them. My Pommy friend and I used it quite a bit during the last Ashes series.😉
It's also useful for certain 'Group' sites, that suit my wants, such as AULRO, Moreton Island and a fishing site.
Might be worthwhile you having a Bo Peep as I reckon you'll find something of interest.

I'm short on bargepoles touch facebook with. In my humble opinion, they are one of the most unethical outfits on the planet.
