Green Landy project

Last year I picked up this '65 IIA shorty - just called 'The Green Landy' to differentiate it from the two other green land rovers sitting in the workshop. Originally bought for parts for my other project but it turned out to be a bit too good for the scrap heap (only just). Its been sitting for ages but I got the (holden 149) engine running after about 20yrs of being parked in a paddock. Chassis is pretty stuffed but the rest isn't bad. All the hydraulics were seized so I just finished putting new masters and a clutch slave on so it can move under its own steam again. Drove it into the sun so I can hit it with the pressure wash.

Currently scratching my head about what to do with it. I'll start with a good clean up, get rid of the cow catcher and get the brakes working properly. Then scratch my head again....

I do have a 2.25l petrol sitting on the floor that needs a home... but realistically this thing does need a lot of chassis work. I just bought another series 1 so not sure I have the time/energy/money do actually do anything with this one.

Hmmmmmm....yeah. I think the head-scratching, cow-catcher-ridding and brake-fixing, followed by another head-scratch sounds like the best plan for starters.

I understand what you mean about finding time/space/money for another Landy....but the Green Landy is so pretty(!), 1965 IIAs don't grow on trees (anymore) and hopefully you don't need to be in any rush to make a decision.

so a little more cleaning up today. Soaked it in degreaser overnight then hit it with the pressure wash - got a lot of the really encrusted mud off to reveal the layers of oil and grease below... lol.

Cut the cow catcher off and exposed the badly rusted dumb irons, of course full of rock hard mud.

Found the brakes were actually pretty good just siezed from a buildup of crap in the drums. [edit: three of the wheel cylinders are seized, I have some spares somewhere here will have to dig them out]

So that's about it for today. Lots of spraying degreaser, waiting, pressure washing it off. The chassis is nowhere near as bad as I thought it was from the preliminary inspection. Needs two bulkhead outriggers, dumb irons and a rear crossmember (it has a bit of rectangular steel tube there at the moment) but otherwise looks pretty sound.

Still working out what to do with it...
