For those of you who have sold their vehicles, especially if you have equipped it with accessories for camping/off-roading/touring did you strip it down and sell it as a standard vehicle or sell it fully loaded, do you think it was worth the effort one way or the other.

If you can use the accessories on your next vehicle then certainly remove them, 2 way radio, dual battery set ups, awnings, spotlights, winch etc. because you won't increase the resale value by much leaving them on the vehicle you are selling[thumbsupbig]

As trout said remove anything that isn't vehicle specific and that you may use again.

Thanks, so I interpret that you're experience is saying strip it back and restore to original and while I certainly had intended to remove some non-vehicle specific items it's the other parts that I am tossing around. For example take off the compomotives find some cheap 20" tyres and put the original 20" wheels back on and sell the compo's, result will be a better outcome (?) than leaving them on the car as far as the overall return is concerned, same could be said for the rear drawers and a few other things that are vehicle-specific but might not be wanted by a new owner.

Advertised and sold my previous vehicle, albeit a Prado, with all the extras - bull bar, driving lights, rear drawers, UHF radio, dual battery system etc etc. Reasonably priced above standard vehicles. The buyer was looking for a kitted out Prado, and he got one, and was happy to pay for it.

I've always removed the 2 way when selling previous vehicles and will do the same again this time plus the Blackvue crash cam, tyre dog monitor, back shelving, (homemade and done a good job for what we do) and Rhino rack but leave the bull bar and RWC.
Then wait with fear in my heart for the various loonies who want to test drive it.
Few will want to have a pic taken of their license so no ride for them. Then there's the idiots who want to just go for a ride in a Landie (but arrive in a Tojo) complete with dog and kids so they don't get a ride either. :)
This time I may just get screwed by the dealers and let them deal with the nutters...

You could try autoflip. I know two people who recently used the service. Simple as and gained them 10-15% more than the dealer was offering for trade in. It’s effectively cutting your losses between trading and going through the pain of private sales. You simply take some photos, post them up, they put it out to bid, best offer wins, you choose to accept or not, then money in the bank and then they come and collect it from you.

I totally depends on the buyer so leave it all onboard except for rare and precious stuff that means a lot to you. A back packer or tourists will want everything they can possibly have with it so they dont waste their holiday building a vehicle up to travelling and camping standards. But an AULRO buyer will prob have their own stuff and the time and specific demands to fit their own preferences. Some people love a boot full of spares and some don't.

Don't waste time and energy stripping it first. That IMO is as daft as polishing and detailing a vehicle just before you sell it, or fitting new tyres that might not be to the buyers preference. Detail it a month or so before so you get some satisfaction out of your hard work / $ then just a quick wash before you sell. Pretty, shiny, spotless engine bays are a big warning flag IMO and same goes for holes everywhere and obviously stripped wiring looms, et al.

Just work it out with the buyer. Most are appreciative of the consideration and choice you give them.

Left everything on the vehicle,including the racks,GAP tool,etc.
It had a bar,dual battery Traxide set up,cargo barrier,second spare.

Had a few spare bits as well,brake light switch,etc.

The buyer was a banker and was going to do a lap of oz with the family & just wanted ne with the lot.

At that time it was unheard of to sell a car a few months old for what you paid for it.

So he got a near new prado at current market value (only a few months old) with all your accessories on it that you paid for both to buy and install for no extra cost? Sounds like he got a good deal

No the car came with the accessories when i bought it - they were packaged into the price.

He nearly fell over when he found out he had to pay stamp duty on top.

What are you replacing the D4 with?

One of the reasons I bought it and very happy that I did not have to do a lot to it before heading off. However I have sold a couple of defenders from our first to a Td5 and I took everything off them because they were so easy to change over including a hard wired compressor, long range tank, airbags, and both radios. They went straight in the new vehicles and are still in the puma.
