Alarming issue at Highway Speed.

Hi Brains Trust,
I have a 2016 Disco Sport now with about 130k on the clock.
it has a very alarming, and possibly dangerous trick. I hope someone can enlighten me…
Im driving down the highway at 110 (in WA) and (usually on cruise control). I pull out to pass someone and the following happens:
gearbox disengages
revs go up
”D” on the instrument cluster goes out (there’s nothing showing)
”D” starts flashing
Gearbox re-engages
The Driver Of the Semi behind me pulls the finger and looks (rightly) annoyed.

Any thoughts.

when I have accelerated with cc on the instrument cluster just shows cruise overridden or over ride (Not sure which just going on memory).
