Just weighed my disco... 2400kg manual says the gvm is 2750.. Front axle over by 50kg with just a aluminium bar and winch.. O yeah and I have removed the rear seats.. Not much to play with for towing weight.. Any one know the GCM for a D2

Dumb question, but how do you measure the weight on individual axles?

Dumb question, but how do you measure the weight on individual axles?

I have a caravan scale that you drive over and it measures each wheel to get overall weight.

Split weigh (one axle at a time) on a public weighbridge.
With a trailer attached, weigh the steer, then weigh the car, then weigh the trailer.
Or weigh the steer, weigh the combination, weigh the trailer. Add the total of the steer and trailer, then subtract that from the gross combination.

Yeah rear axle catches a lot out…….

Our defer can barely tow a 6x4 box trailer in our current trim……

Yep! weight sneaks up on 'ya as you 'perfect' the rig to your satisfaction.

Things to consider: rear drawers type arrangements. We made up a drawer/single bed setup in the bros D2(td5) using some ply. The top shelf/cover was a 3 piece design that folded on itself, and folded out to make a single bed. Width was the major limitation as he wanted to maintain easy access to the fridge on the LHS if the cargo area. Worked really well(other than the 4" foam) but with an inflatable mattress was a very handy quick solo camping mod we made.
Added weight for just the ply used(and carpeted and hinged and glued and screwed) 23kg!(it did need to be strong enough to support 100kg fatsos!! [biggrin])

Also.. wheels/tyres.
When bro bought the D2 it came on steel rims, some aftermarket multi holed pattern, not the std disco/P38a steel rims. 3 of them were buckled, so needed fixing or replacing. I got some alloys for it, with used tyres(70% tread still on them).
Tyres we had on the steelies were 245/75s. recently bought alloys have 265/70s on them.. bigger tyres(just). When fitting the tyres, each one felt a bit less weighty. At the time I was working at a truck company with a axle scale in the driveway, so easy to weight the D2 any day. Fitting the alloys dropped the total vehicle weight by 50kg.
Dunno if it was just the wheels, or maybe the 245 tyres had 'beefier' construction(both types 6 ply tho). So each alloy/tyre combo dropped 10kgs .. and I knew they felt lighter when fitting them up, especially the spare on the door.
