Hello all,
I was asking myself a question, is it worth it to fit an engine guard OR an engine oil temp gauge to the TD5.
I already have a digital coolant temp gauge, the (old one is still plugged in behind the dash) I have an engine oil temp gauge somewhere, and i will be towing a caravan soon.

if you were to be purchasing a gauge, I'd reckon a pressure gauge is 'more important' than a temp gauge.
But as you already have, it's always nice to know how it's all running up front, isn't it.
I got a gauge kit(ie, multiple gauges in one) in my Tdi(Disco).
Has oil press and temp. It's handy having both, because if you have a press gauge only, and engine does get hot, oil pressure obviously drops, as you'd expect.
Not being able to see that the oil is 30 or 40°C hotter than usual, if the oil pressure is lower than normal, you don't panic that there is an oil pressure issue, because you'd expect it to be lower that with so much extra heat in the oil .. would be normal.
In the Tdi, while oil and coolant temps are generally proportional, they're not directly proportional.
Sometimes oil takes a long longer to heat up relative to the coolant, and always takes a lot longer to cool down again back to a normal temp.
I'd recommend that if you do go to the trouble to fit the pressure gauge, may as well go the extra mile and get a pressure gauge fitted too. If you're going to the trouble to fit the sensors down in there, an additional T fitting to fit both pressure and temp sensors isn't too much bother or expense(maybe $20-30ish), and running the wiring at the same time too isn't too much extra work either.

Thanks, I’m always grateful for answers and other peoples insights, as they might be looking from a perspective that I have not thought of. :)
In previous cars I’ve had oil pressure gauges, and found them not really an essential item, and when an oil line let go in one of my friends cars it just went from 60 to 0 in no time flat, so the pressure is not really worrying me. Its more the temp, as this gives me an indicator as to just how hard the engine is working.
