Launched now - but am I seeing this right, now even the third row doesn’t fold down to form a flat boot?

Really?!?

Had to double check…it appears you’re right. Rear area doesn’t lay flat, has an angled step. Hoping this is production/ photo errors.
If not…seriously considering what thought process happens at JLR…

I'm hoping that the seats fold flat like they do in the 110, otherwise the 130 (which I have been waiting to have a look at) would be off the table for me.

"Folding the seats is a tedious process. If you are in a hurry just fold down the seats as it is but they won't go flat. For that, you will have to fold the headrests first then pull a tab on the front of the seat to lift the seating area, and then fold down the remaining portion which creates a completely flat loading area."

Sounds ok to me - same process as a D3/4 then…

It‘s too ridiculous to be true - a flat boot is critical for all the adventure things the marketing department says I need. Otherwise, it’s just an off road Tarago

I desperately want to love this car.

Towing looks like it's dropped down to 3t (from 3.5t in the 110)

And what kind of hot mess is this?

That's why I am waiting to see one in the flesh as I am hoping the seats fold all the way down like the Disco 3's and 4's.

You have to have the sunroof at the moment you cant delete as an option. So that's a deal breaker for me.
A 5 seater version with bit more space in the back would be nice. But I will stick with the 110 I have on order

That would be a huge seller, and a common sense model to have.Great touring vehicle.

They seem to be pushing the 8 seater, which would be more suitable for taking the kids and their friends to school, soccer, large families, etc.

Looking on the UK JLR site, a five seater is an option. Then you can have a flat cargo area if the middle seat bases are lifted before dropping the backs down, like in the 110.

Goodness knows why the rear seats haven't been designed to lie flat. :spudnikwhat:

Exactly! The D4 has often been held up as a fantastic design - near-full size 3rd row seats that fold down completely flat. In the 20 years since that design came out, we seem to have only gone backwards.

The D4 had a heap of great features that seemed to disappear in later models.

One would have to wonder what some manufacturers are thinking…..

Don't worry I'm sure Ineos will sort out a good "130" or duel cab for the Grenadier [tonguewink]

I've always marvelled at how the D3/4 seats fold flat, must've been done on a great CAD/CAM programme, or full size mock up to make sure all the parts moved without hitting others.

Disappointing that the D5 seats don't fold flat, and it's turning circle is larger than the D3/4's, and now this sort of thinking seems to have carried on to the New Defender.

The 110 rear 7 seat Defender seats fold flat but the rear two seats are really for children or double amputees! But I guess if the market says build us a true 8 seat people mover (with leg room) then compromise is the only way given everything else that is needed below the seats like the mild-hybrid gear.

JLR are probably not much interested fro a sales perspective in selling to a few Australian recreational owners. If it produces a hard top (troopy) version then there will be a market here for sure.

Or bring in the commercial version that is already in production..so bloody practical

$124K + on roads, that is pretty steep.. our P400 SE 110 7 seat (with e-diff, tow pack, black roof, plus the majority of
the explorer pack minus the lunch box) came in at the same price but inclusive of its on road costs as the 8 seater before
you fork out the governments $$$$$ + the options.. That was 18 months ago, so assume my pay out would go up a bit if
i bought a replacement from new.. The next point would be parking, mine is a tight fit in most car parks, especially
Westfield, wonder how the 8 seater is going to fit ..

I have a bullbar and rear spare wheel carrier on my D3 and it gets a bit tight in some carparks, but luckily the turning circle is fairly good for a big vehicle. It will be interesting to see how the 130's go for the average driver, when fitted with the same mods extending the length, combined with a greater turning circle. I think the onboard cameras will be getting a workout!
