I notice that most of the Perenties in recent auctions have bee newly repainted. Does anybody know if this is done in-house or by a contractor (like the Repco canvas covers are)?
It strikes me that, if its a contractor, this might be the most economical way to renew the authentic cammo paintwork, if the work was accessible to current owners outside the ADF.

Just buy the paint. For smaller areas, the three colours are available in spray cans.

For larger jobs, KLR can supply 4 litre tins of paint for a spray gun.

If you search through the forum you will find info on Protec paints and the suppliers you can buy it through.
I get my boxes of paint from the local Protec paints although they are called something else now. It will also be cheaper through them in both aerosol and 4lt tins.

Answering what I think was your original question at least some were contracted out but by no means is this economical for us average punters. Defence does not sneeze at ****ing money up against a wall and we regularly pay well over market rate.
I am going to do a full repaint on my GS, but have been looking at ways of cutting the costs. Given you can remove the body work pretty easily I have found a couple of smaller ‘home’ painters who might struggle with a whole 4x4 but can do the panels individually at a much lower cost. I have been teaching myself to airgun and could do the cam paint job (and have), but my current car will be getting a slightly more upmarket paint job.

I was speaking with an ex digger on the weekend, he saw my Perentie and came over for a chat, he said some paint jobs were done by the diggers themselves.
Also the later Perenties(1989 on) have a lighter green, like mine.

If you want a lighter colour then Paint Powerhouse can mix the paint in house at 1/2 or 1/4 and put it in a spray pack for you. But at about $30 a can it's more expensive than the premixed can for $24 from KLR.
