Hi everyone,
I have a 2008 Disco 3 which I absolutely love to drive and has not yet let me down. I am disappointed with my local (and only) Land Rover Dealership however, who refuses to service/repair my vehicle. I rang them a couple of months ago regarding the replacement of my timing gear and they refused to take it on stating that the vehicle was "too old", "had too many miles on it" (290k), and that "too many things could go wrong with it if they touched it". Well, it was their loss because I found a former L?R mechanic working for my local Lubemobile franchise and he did the job with no problems at all . . .

My latest effort involves my radio system. My old genuine L/R radio had the buttons fall off and since they cannot be purchased as a replacement part, I bought another working radio from a friend. This radio works but no sound comes out of it. A snap on scan tool tells me that the system is "inactive" but does not offer an option to activate it. The reset method found on the net, on this site and in the documentation does not fix it either. i am being told that a visit to the dealership and their L/R specific scan tool is required, however, my local guys said "No. we wont touch it because it is too old !!".

I'm at a loss for words (except a whole vocabulary of swear words) . . . I have spoken to L/R Australia and I'm waiting for a reply. What the hell can anyone with the older cars do with this issue ?? They talk about the reliability, durability and value of their product and then abandon you when they feel like it, I assume, to force you to update.

Anyone else come up against this issue anywhere else in Australia ?? I am in the Hunter valley . . . I be interested to know what other dealerships are saying to their clients.

Thanks . . . Gian

Fraser motorcycles used to do it.. Anything over ten years, they said parts were only guaranteed for 10 years so it was a risk to them. Was a long time ago when they told me that but.

You can buy after market knobs for the radio - ebay, Aliexpress, powerfulUk etc

Not making a recommendation but All4x4 may be able to help with servicing.

4wd industries in Rutherford should have the tooling to do that. And as Gary said, all 4x4 should be able to do it too, they also have a wrecking division for getting the parts
