Early 51 models can have some unique features, like free-wheel gearbox, lights through the grille grille, "cats eye" headlights, 9 screw voltage regulator etc.
Do your home work.

It has both the 9 screw voltage regulator and the "cats eye" headlights so looks like a late 1951

It's an early 51. Just out of interest, are the axle check straps made of folded canvas, similar to old fire hose ? There are probably quite a few bits worth saving. Eg. narrow rear springs were only used on 80".

Big job on your hands there! Nothing is "beyond restoration". Get started!

I'm not sure about the axle check straps. It's on a friend's property, he is restoring another 80" so will be saving whatever is worthwhile from this one now that the body is off.
Gearbox has power take off. Axles, diffs, motor, steering box etc all salvagable. He has all good body components so was happy for me to take body off this one to be used as 'garden art' and firewood storage beside my slab hut.
My friend has a problem with position of gearbox mounts on his restored chassis - he was hoping to get dimensions from this chassis but alas, they have rusted off so not possible.
Do you, by any chance, have dimensions for positioning of 80" gearbox mounts?

These measurements were taken from the workshop manual. I assume they were taken horizontally and not along the contours of the cross member. (Too hard to confirm with a cheap tape measure).

I now have some more numbers from the above vehicle and would appreciate confirmation or otherwise of it being an early 1951 model.
Engine Number: 06113689
Gearbox Number: 16103452
Unfortunately I haven't been able to get the chassis number.

The engine No is 1950 & Gearbox No is 1953.
The 1st number in Chassis / Gearbox & Diff Numbers are the year, The Diff numbers are stamped on the top of the long side of the Diff housing . The Chassis number should be stamped on the top of the L/H engine mount bracket on the chassis & will be a 8 digit number , there could also be a R stamped . There may also be a 4 digit number 1/2 the height of the chassis number which has nothing to do with the chassis number , I always believed it to be a stock number but this may be incorrect. There should also be a brass chassis plate Approx 60mm X 40mm on the L/H bulkhead just below the bonnet on early S1'sor the number would be on the Transfer leaver plate on the dash on later S1's

Any chance of higher resolution copies of these two documents please? I saved these but am unable to read them due to the low resolution.
The previous attachments were saved and are quite readable.
Thanks again for your efforts.

Thanks 1950Landy - I've saved all of those and they are quite readable.
I'm driving to Darwin on Tuesday and I'll have time while up there to read and digest all the info supplied so I think that will suffice for now.
Thanks again for your diligence in photographing and posting it all, much appreciated.

Well, after a few months of cutting, welding, panel beating, patching and pop riveting the body is in reasonably respectful shape again. At least good enough to serve for my firewood storage next to Horne's Hut. Still a bit of work to do but it is at least in position and being put to good use again - even if not it's original purpose.

I was surprised, considering the extent of the damage, how easy it was to get the panels back to somewhat like their original shape

A bit more work to be done on them and a front bumper to be made and fitted once I align everything properly and fit the Webber Q under the bonnet.
I'm still chasing some wheel bearings, I have stub axles and hubs, so I can make it mobile. [bigwhistle]
