Gents...
Just curious as to other peoples thoughts on running "black" coloured rims on a White 110 Wgn verses running your standard alloy coloured rims?
Currently running the standard LR Defender Alloys but thinking about going a black coloured rim
Thoughts??

I had that choice when ordering the new one (L633). I chose not to go for the black because of the risk of scratching/scoring the finish on rocks. That is much more visible on the black finish.

Cheers for that...
I was thinking of either just painting my existing Alloys Rim - black or just buy black steelies with a much better offset and run them instead. Preferably close to a 0 offset and on a 7.5" rim that can still take a 235 tyre all the way up to a 285 tyre if I so chose...
The factory Defender Alloys to my surprise rub on the rear Spring perch under flex and that's only with a 235/85 size tyre. Plus steering turn is a issue that I want to solve as well...

I think black rims look crap on any car.

Except for your width requirement, these might have suited: "Wolf" Tubeless 16" Rim - Choose Colour - KLR Automotive (https://klrautomotive.com.au/wolf-heavy-duty-rim/)

I have black rims, changed from white. The black gives a much tougher look I reckon but only if it matches in with other things like the flares, bullbar etc. White also looks great, probably a little better in my eyes and also looks a bit ‘softer’, more of a classic look. They both look good.

Totally agree... when added to Dark Tinted windows; Black Gullwings;; Black B/bar and Sliders, the black steel rims go well.
The main reason looking at this is changing the offset...

Thanks for that... but I'd like to try and find 7>7.5 max rim width as the wider the rim width the more easily the tyre can come off the bead when let down if I was to run a 235 width tyre. A 7.5 rim will suit a better range of tyre should I chose so...

Bought a set of extra rims that were painted black, I didn't like them at all compared to the original white one especially on my white Defender.
With 6 rattle paint cans, the needed primer quantity and some elbow grease they are now white.

Thanks for that... it's obvious that rim colour is a very personal choice... When I was a lot younger, I always had white rims on my white 4WD's but now that is not a colour I would prefer. Black is the easiest and u can obviously paint or touch-up the rim with the tyre still on as any overspray is not a big issue with black tyres.
As I've mentioned b4 I'm running the OEM factory Alloys but I'm not a real fan of the off-set on them. So, I've got to make up my find as to whether I just buy new black steelies (the cheapest & preferable option) or find some 2nd hand Alloys with a more suitable offset (might be difficult - do not want to buy brand new Alloys due to the cost)
With the Steelies, I'd like to have the circles instead of the normal triangle design or at least the D design. Unfortunately these Circle or D design in a 7 or 7.5 steel rim is not that common to source...

You could also consider the military specs steelies, like the wolf model.

Yes, that's an option but they are fairly heavy I believe and I still want to keep to a similar weighted rim that I currently have

You have also an excellent option with the Discovery 1 steelies, I have a set and they look great on the 110.

TLDR: go black and alloy.
I would go black.
When bro gave me his D2(white), it had black steelies on it. They were buckled and bent and I need to sort that.
I found a set of alloys to suit and all alloys on D2 are silver. Steelies were heavier, even tho tyres were smaller on them .... 50kg less weight all up.
Car then looked weird white with silver wheels, but all I wanted was straight wheels, and the lighter weight was a bonus. The spare wheel was the striking obvious lighter wheel to need to deal with.
Bro wanted the D2 back, and not long after he repossessed it, he painted the alloys black. Totally different look, and overall I reckon better.

Yes agreed.... I already have a set in the shed but having the same offset as the oem alloys I'm not really achieving what I'm looking for. Better turning circle and also not to have the tyres rub on the rear spring perch would be a good thing too

The next thing for MY13 Defender was tyres and rims.
Am wanting to go the black and have looked around for some sawtooths , have been moving the car towards and "Adventure" spec.
Have changed the grill and painted the headlight surrounds black, was grey, a massive improvement in looks I reckon, need to change the letters on the bonnet tho.
For the ute (MY94) I got some D1 steelies which where grey and got them powder coated white, not an exact colour match but on a faded farm ute look really good, they are currently running some 235/75/16 mud pattern.
These get borrowed by MY13 when I need to and look really good and a noticeable improvement in ride over the std. continentals.
But she does need her own set of boots.
I would like to go towards a 33" tyre size which I think is a 285/?/16 but got lost in the whole offset thing, didn't want to keep the std flares.
So would be keen to hear what you decide.
My thoughts are;
white rims on white car look good, smart, matching the body colour gives a more considered presentation, a more subtle look.
black rims on white car also look awesome, but its the contrast that gives you a more bold statement and you also need to consider some other black bits, but less can be more.
Its a personal choice depending on what "vibe" you want from your car. I think either way you will be happy with the change from the std. boost alloys
I'm also considering wrapping the roof in black of the MY13
cheers

Sorry meant to say I want to keep the std. flares, which may push me away from a 285 to 255/?/16, Don't want to go 17'
"'s or 18"'s. I have the D1 one rims on trailers etc so it mimimises spare wheel requirements and means I can chop and change fairly easily if the need arises.
cheers

Hi Rob guess who. Anyway i do agree with you that black rims but they have to be a high gloss they will go with black grille & headlight surrounds clean UV polyglase protecting spray stuff on wheel arches & black wheel arches darkened windows clean rear cross member & your black roof rack with black checker plate on the bonnet areas.Rims best option would be 16x7.5 but need a correct offset to miss rear spring towers on up travel. As you know steel rims best for repairing when dented.Check out Home - KBS Coatings (http://www.kbs-coatings.com.au) (tough paints).

With the Steel Sunnies in a 16x7.5, I'd like to find ones that have the "O" holes instead of the Triangles. The "D" would be my next choice. The only problem with wanting the "O" holes is I can't seem to find any Steelies in a 16x7.5, they all appear to start at a 16x8 width rim :(
unless someone can guide me to where I can buy the 7.5x16 with "O" holes steelies (not Wolf Rims)?

Robmacca I have been looking everywhere also, at best you will have to get 16x7 rims Wolf style I have made enq. into having a set of 16x8 rims narrowed down to 16x7.5 from wheel engineers they all tell me that it is not allowed by law to do such mods.Rim centers can have the offset changed they said at $190 each wow, I had my disco steel rim centers relocated 15 years ago $50 each.
To purchase rims you need the rim facewhere it mounts to wheel hub to outer most section of rim to be 130mm eg hub face to the rim diff side so that the rim is more out towards the flares this will still allow LT265/75R16 & LT255/85R16 tyres to not rub on rear spring towers. For tyre size to rim look up BF Goodrich tyre size chart tyres you my like LT265/75R16 they have a wider tread than LT255/85R16.Not many tyre companies make LT255/85R16 tyres. If you can find a rim 16x7.5 & a center of your choice the wheel mods companies can make that for you.
Good luck. PS it was good this time last year I may have given away my identity.

I've just started running zero offset wolfs from klr with 225/95s. best combo IMHO. You have height of a 33, improved stance and turning circle, no rubbing anywhere and keeps normal flares. If you want a mud tyre go the 255. No need to consider anything else, except colour - black will always look a bit bad ass on a white truck! here's a pic to see what the size and offset look like..https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220624/b14eb6733b8a4af68142f220883c1f45.jpg

Had an email from Bearmach stating that they have 16x7 Steel Rims with "O" holes with a "0" offset for $110/rim. This is exactly what I have been looking for. Went to see what they would cost me all up including shipping and when I went to check out the Bearmach site came back telling me that they cannot ship them to Australia :(
Does anyone know how to source these or something similar to Australia or in Australia?

They are awesome. I was running them on tubed wolfs with tubes and never had an issue but now I got them on tubless rims for piece of mind (to go lower pressures) Because they such a big profile (95) they flatten out like caterpillar tracks at low pressures. Haven't been in deep mud, but the skinny tyres do bite in good. They are really good on gravel, steep rocky stuff and sand.. and hwy! The dunlop road grippers are a pretty aggressive all terrain and a good compromise for road and offroad. Full muds just seem like too much of a compromise on road i reckon. And let's face it, if is really serious terrain, you should be with other vehicles -so proper front and rear recovery points and a winch, are probably going to be just as useful as slightly more chunky tyres. I got some duelers in the same size in the shed but they seem much more road biased. Both sets are take-offs from Landcruisers. Can normally find them for 100 a tyre or less. Other benefits include: they fit standard rims, they fit standard flares, and they don't throw crap up the side of the car, they are better on fuel and money saved you can
spend on other traction aids like lockers or recovery gear. I used to have some 255 85 16 muds for more serious off road but sold them because the benefits were not worth the muck around.
