Hi guys this is my first post im only 17 and recently bought my first car a 2002 land rover discovery series 2 TD5.
Unfortunetly the day i picked my car my car the thrid hose on the fuel pressure regulator started leaking (this is the hose that attaches at the front of the engine, pain to get too)
after replacing the hose i went to start it up and it started perfectly the first time guessing this is because of the fuel already in the system. after 10 seconds it cut out and wouldnt start, cranks but wont start. when turning the ignition of the fuel pump makes a loud whiring noise then goes quiet after 15 seconds. After pumping the accelerator a few times sometimes it would crank over but then cut out again after usually a few seconds. Was wondering if anyone has had this issue before or could lead me in the right direction.
Thanks Thomas

Thanks ThomasHi Thomas,
Welcome aboard.
On a TD5 a fuel purge cycle can be started by turning the ignition on and pumping the accelerator several times, when this is done the engine light will start flashing and the fuel pump will run for several cycles.
I think it takes a couple minutes for a cycle, you can then cycle the ignition and start another one.
After you've done a couple, see if it will start, you can also hold the accelerator to the floor while cranking as it also helps.
Cheers

As shack said the system has air in it do the purge as stated let it cycle through when the fuel pump stops purging turn the ignition off let it sit for about 10 seconds turn the ignition back on if fuel pump cycles let it when it stops see if car starts. If the car does not start you may need a hawk eye or a nanacom.

As with the above, but the sound the pump makes will eventually quieten down (each time the purge is done is gets less) and once this happens it should start immediately. From memory it is 5 pumps to the floor with ignition on to get the flashing engine light.
