To X or not to X, That is the question.

Looking to place an order for a new defender very soon, I've specced up a P400 X and an SE. From the options listing, I think they are very close in spec, there are some packs and features that would make an SE very close to the X.

Question is, do I upgrade to the X or spec up the SE? Would be interested in what others think.

Not yet, I usually hang onto cars for a long time. I've had the D4 for 8 years now, will probably be 10 years by the time I trade up. Agree with the sentiment that SE may have better resale, I am leaning towards that.

The only issue currently might be whether the options chosen end up being available when the vehicle is built. Maybe going X will provide some surety.

Checked in with a mate of mine yesterday, he recently got a quote from Barbagellos here in Perth for a D300 HSE Dynamic. Expected delivery February 2024...18 months lead time from yesterday. In the forecourt of Southern LandRover there were at least 8 or 10 pre-delivery Defenders, a mix of 90 and 110's. Most were P400, one D300. A X in the mix too.

Given the number of failures in the diesels at the moment, I’d be grabbing a petrol version.

Sure, the 4 cylinder diesel engines were not the best,have there been failures with the 300D as well?

The dealer has just informed me today that mine (D300) ordered in April is likely to be built in August and delivered November/December. It's a 23.5 MY I'm told. [bigsmile1]

The dealer's response was a phone conversation after an email I sent. Have you contacted yours?

I'm yet to see it in writing and I'll believe it when I see it...oh the pain of skepticism!

I ordered a D300 SE in February and have not had confirmation of my order yet, Just a thank you letter in May. Thanking me for my purchase and patience..

Specced my P400 SE on Saturday, just waiting on a few clarification points re spare tyre cover and digital dash before pulling the trigger. After discussions with the sales rep we decided to stick with the SE spec. Test drove their p400 110 demonstrator, pretty impressive to say the least.

Haha, daughter #1 wants me to keep it (i.e she wants it to drive on her holiday) , I need to move the D4 on to help finance the Defender, will be my first new car in 14 years, and I keep my cars for around 8-10 years. The test drive showed me the Defender is everything and more....and whilst the D4 is an awesome vehicle, I think the Defender will be better. Plus I currently have agreement from the minister of war and finance, so strike while the iron is hot....

11.4 inch screen no cost option
I went for Windsor Tan Leather that bundles the premium interior pack which now includes the clearsight mirror.

I still have no idea on delivery dates and at this stage its a MY 23.5 but my guess is it will be a MY24 by the time it gets built.

I checked that too, they said they will ensure we get the current build. Included the clearview, will check on thr 11.4 screen. No HUD and yesterday they said at as today they can only offer the hybrid digital / analogue display. Potentially by the time it gets built the semiconductor shortage is less and we will be able to get the full digital dash.

How Bizarre, I check my emails every day hoping for that email to be there from LRA to finally tell me that I have moved out of the tadpole pool into the big frog pool and maybe even an expected delivery date.
Yet the longer that takes the better the car, well maybe?

Order confirmation arrived today via email, including an order number. What I thought was funny was I was "welcomed to the land rover family" never mind I've run the "good oil" for the past 8 years in the trusty D4.

No delivery date, but I did sign up to the LR Interactive site, will try to plug the order number in there and see what happens.

Now I'm already trawling all the online aftermarket sites, I've already 'virtually' spent another 5k on aftermarket gear....oh the joys of starting a new build.
