Hello All,

Given a choice between a Goss or a Fuelmiser in tank petrol fuel pump which would you recommend?

The fuel pump is for a VY Commodore 2004 V6 Wagon. I watched a YouTube clip which warned against getting a particular alternative brand because it has issues with the fuel level indicator/float arm sensor. The bloke then recommended an alternative brand pump. So I bought the suggested brand. You know if one person explains in detail why not to get a particular brand and shows the difference between them. You go with the recommended one.... Right.

Well guess what? Instead of the tank reading 1/4 of a tank the previously very accurate and reliable fuel gauge now reads 100 percent or more full. I have had the car since 2015 as a daily driver and its fuel gauge has always been reliable. The replacement fuel pumps are sold as a complete module fuel pump - float arm and full casing. As per the photograph. A bolt off the old one - bolt on the new one - type of job. Then hook the three pipes up and put in the plug and replace the earth wire - bingo. I should have a reliable fuel pump and an accurate fuel gauge. The operative word being "should". At least the car starts easily now when the fuel level in the tank gets to and below 1/4 full. Shame the fuel gauge is no longer accurate

Just to clarify - the Goss and Fuelmiser are two brands that are not the ones mentioned on YouTube.

Having dropped and remounted the tank twice now: 1) drop tank and take out old fuel pump - replace with new one [find error with fuel gauge]. 2) drop tank just to make sure that the fuel pump is on the right angle and the float arm is free - then remount [to find the same issue with the new pump fuel arm]. When I get a different brand pump Goss/Fuelmiser - I reckon dropping and remounting the tank will be a walk in the park! I have the procedure down pat.

Kind regards
Lionel

Hello All,

I was just doing some more research online and came across this post by a person who bought a new fuel module....

Works BUT check the sender resistance before install.

Installed in a VY V6 (S) commodore and, although the fuel pump works perfectly, the fuel sender resistance was inverted i.e. 250ohms at empty and 0 at full - so it showed full when the tank was empty.

Had to remove a second time to swap with the original old sender.

Looks like I am not Robinson Crusoe ...

Kind regards
Lionel
