Hi,

I just noticed that the LHS signature light on my D4 is not working i.e. only the RHS signature light is on with the light switch in park setting. AFAIK these are LED.

I've checked the fuse (F24 lower glovebox) and disconnected and re-connected the electrical plug to the headlight assembly. The other lamps in the LHS assembly work i.e. the headlight (HID) and turn signal are fine.

Yes, this is a relatively trivial issue, but since the D4 is new to me this week I'm watching for any issues that might be covered by the (used) dealer warranty.

Any other ideas of things to check? I guess I should remove the headlight and try to test the sig lamp somehow... I didn't think that LEDs could 'blow'?

Thanks. The Land Rover experience has begun! :)

Do you have access to a scan tool/fault computer? You might have a BCU fault

Not being funny, but it's not because you've left the indicator on? I don't know if its relevant for the disco, but in some euro cars that's used to put lights on one side when parked - a legal visibility requirement, that would show as just this?

LED’s can fail. They’re an electronic component and can fail, but shouldn’t.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes I have a Gap IIDTool I'm yet to transfer from the previous owner - I'll check for BCU codes when I get it going this weekend.
Edit: No relevant codes. Two minor stored 'U' codes from when the vehicle had 59km on the clock! Cleared them.

Here's a pic of the one-eyed signature lamp lit.

Silly Question

But do you know for sure it was working.

I had a 2016 D4 and noticed one day when i was opening front gate that Signature DRL was not working.

Car was 6 months old when i noticed it

Used to got to work in the dark and come home in the dark - so headlights masked it.

Turned out to be a pinched wire during assembly.

Thanks chuck. Not a silly question. I've had the car less than a week - bought from a dealer. The headlights come on when transmission is in P or R or S regardless of the headlight switch position. Hence I did not notice the dead signature light, just as you didn't, while the headlights are on. The signature light is on alone when the car door is opened, which is when I noticed the dead one.

Where was the pinched wire?

Scott

Memory fails me and i don't want to guess and lead you up the garden path.

I do remember it took the dealer quite some time to find it.

Hi Scott

Personally I would take it back to the dealer if you have a warranty. My thought is that if you play with it they can then deny responsibility.

Yes I expect any warranty discussion to be difficult. However I respectfully disagree that I cannot do basic troubleshooting; that's because the owners manual covers items such as removing the headlight, changing bulbs and checking fuses. That's what I'm doing.

Unfortunately the headlight itself is faulty which I confirmed today. My reading of the vehicle standards in Victoria: a dead parking (side) light is a road-worthy issue. As you say, back to the dealer.

Just to close this thread. The dealer who sold me the car agreed to fix the non-working signature light (aka side-light aka position-light aka parking-light - sigh). In the end he replaced the entire headlight unit with one from another D4 of similar vintage. Good service from Highbury Automotive! I understand he will try to repair the headlight he now has by replacing the LED driver module i.e. it is possible to replace that module, similarly to the HID ballast which is also replaceable.
