So after spending a couple of weekends fitting a Bull Bari have a few problems.....Shakes head in Disbelief

Running the engining and a I notice a puddle of oil........I should say a river of oil

Stop the engine bloody quick..... Pull guards of whilst laying in said oil, Looking for the source well its from the front (towards the Left side I think) of the engine pouring out whilst running

anybody had this issue ???? Whats up at the front apart from the oil Pump unless thats failed!!!
Discovery 4 2010 TDV6 240K

And the other issue which is for another day

Ive lost communication with the transfer module throughing up about 10 codes including a air bag fault, Somebody on another forum had the exact faults and changed fuse 22 which I have

Hmmmmm could be gearbox oil also from the cooler but smell / colour will determine that or engine oil.

If the front crank oil seal pops out the oil pump oil will come out fast. I’d have my money on that as not many other sources except a poorly fitted oil filter oozing from the top.

Oil is like blood a tiny amount looks bad.

You’ll need to take a few covers off and the shroud around the radiator fan.

That’s a bummer.
The oil seal failed in our D3 and a lot of oil came out.
Hopefully no engine damage done, as it sounds like you caught it in time.
best wishes
Jeffoir.

Front crank seal?? I'd get a mate to tow me rather than find out the hard expensive way. Doesn't sound like a item I would try fixing in the bush. Replacement engine in my D3 was NOT my favorite topic. Hope its cheap and easy for you.

Yes only genuine pump.

You need a LR tool for inserting the seal onto the shaft or buy the Victor Reinz seal from AF which has an insert tool. You then have to drive it in to the pump. I think the later pumps the seal goes in till it stops 1mm recessed.

You don’t need to replace the oil pump unless you want to but it’s a good time to replace the timing belt if that’s needed.

Not much history on disco my thoughts are whilst in there might as well change the pump belt and the coolant crossover

New oil pump comes with a seal inserter tool I thought so it’s a win win? I might be wrong.

I could be wrong but pump comes with a pump insert tool for aligning pump on shaft flats. Pump comes with no seal sold separately (maybe from LR they sell together). Can use the pump insert tool as a way of driving in the seal but you need a method of getting the seal on the shaft lip first or else it will leak badly again. Apply no lube.

Yes agree but you need to get the seal over shaft with a tool that allows the seal lip to go first. Then you push it home.

I’m tempted to buy the Victor Reinz after market shaft seal with the tool from AF with the FoMoCo pump then locally buy the genuine LR seal as you really don’t want any doubt on this seal.

Yes, that's what i did - bought a genuine seal and a Victor Reinz just for that fitment sleeve.

The seal can be fitted without a tool by fitting the lower edge first by holding the seal at an angle then lifting the seal vertically so that the top of the lip is above the shaft. Check with a mirror that the lip is correctly fitted all the way round before inserting the seal into the housing.
All D4 housings have a stop for the seal so insert the seal until it stops.

PS I applied a few drops of bearing retainer to ensure that it stayed in.

When I bought my oil pump from the local Ford dealer it came with everything including oil seal.
