hi

I am in the process of doing the final small bits and ends restoring my 1978 SWB Game and have given up trying to get parts in OZ. Its either madly priced, unavailable or "never had one, can order" (at 5 times the price it is overseas!).

Im at the Central Coast and have tried quite a few parts dealers in Sydney and up the Coast. No luck yet... now i buy ALL i can straight from the UK over the net and pay via PAYPAL. Couple of good buys on EBAY but others at the dealers direct over the web. So far its OK as its small parts like door locks, window latches, and the like.

Being new to this landy experience I would appreciate advice from fellow members what their experiences are. Im worried when it gets to bigger parts for the motor in future its too heavy and will cost lost to ship to OZ. Where do you get parts from in OZ ?

BTW lets not get started about mechanics.. After a few bad dealings with local mechanics Im doing it myself with a parts catalogue and workshop manual if its not too big. Where im from a "good" mechanic keeps the parts he replaces in a plastic bag so you can SEE what was replaced and why. If its big he phones you and gets an OK to order or let you try for a better price. After the job is done you have parts + labour and a detailed invoice to keep as history. NOT the last service I did (and this is at the BEST machanic on the Central Coast from awards they got!) Its called a Class B service and nothing is accounted for or kept as evidence that it was actually replaced.

ONLY in Sydney have I dealt with mechanics that have built up their reputation and respect by doing the above.

So if anybody can point me to a really good mechanic at the Central Coast, much appreciated.

Cheers

Can't help with the mechanics but Brittish 4WD were good on the price the recently quoted me on my radiator just got the E-Mail to late to accept it. I had found someone willing to rebuild it and had the parts ordered in. Would have cost $20 extra for the new one:(

Karcraft in Sydney

They'll quote via email, and I've found their prices to be very good. They also specify original, original manufacturer, and third party.

I have found the best part of Four Wheel Drives is their fast mail order service - unless you phone late in the day you can expect it to be shipped that day. Only concern I have had is the quality of some parts, but the price reflects this. Often they have both the genuine and non-genuine part, although you may have to ask. I have also got parts from Fred Smith in Melbourne - he only supplies genuine or very good parts, and some prices have been very good.

I think that may be Gary Osborne now. If it is, he has a great reputation - one of the best Landie mechanics going around.

Hi F_B British 4wd is useless to you, whilst i use them and normally only them for the disco they dont stock series parts you that eliminate them. Probably the best place is FourWheelDrives, visit their website and for $20 they will post you and extensive parts catalogue for prices and exploded diagrams for nearly every part you would need to rebuild a series landy.

Hi F B
Four Wheel Drives are good, email them you should get their cattledog on CD for free.
Britparts in Perth are very good.
Most Series stuff is still available at reasonable prices in Aust.

g'day fellas

sorry to dig this old post up again. Im still spewing after the central coast mechanics experience. In short they did a oil change ONLY (and that is classed as a schedule B service and it took lots getting that out of them to know) and nothing else. And I mean NOTHING else was touched. landy at them for a week and they charged me $230. BTW i dont care if they sue me, good luck. They are called DAVEY MECHANICS in Gosford. Won a ton of awards and are NRMA approved and with me new to Gosford thought play it safe. Well anyway thats done. Sorry for the winge fellas but nothing works better than "bad publicity". At least i feel better now and got a new email address as consolidation, playing with words on Yahoo got my4x4xfar@yahoo.com.au. liked the ring of it...

have anybody used Ayers Automotive in Brookvale ? Found them today as i work in Brookie and thought they are close to take it to for one proper service. Website is : http://www.aauto.com.au/

Any advice will be much appreciated. Newcastle is a bit far and I can drive landy to work for service..

Cheers

Tuggerah is South of Wyong. I know someone from Kurrajong who will only let Gary Osborne (at Tuggerah) work on his Rover.

Don't know Ayers Automotive in Brookvale, but Malcolm at British and Swedish Motors at Narrabeen, is well known in Rover circles. Has loan cars available, so that may help you.

just tried craddocks in uk, not very impressed took six days to get delivery quote and then parts had to go though customs etc gst and brokage charges, delivery from importer would have been extra. not sure weather im being nieve but thought delivery would have been to home address.
next time will try matt savage had good results when in the uk, plus he knows landrovers so can offer some good advice.

I have a Landy garage (that used to sponser me racing) they send me parts that i need thought the post. They also tend to take them out of the box and call them second hand (mm stop reading this here Vlad:D ) so they don't get any customs charges
