Wasn't sure weather to put this in Recovery or Humour so I'll put it here.
A mate is touring USA , saw this at Yellowstone NP.

My first thought was a pull cord so it made a roaring noise when the string was released.

It's a camping, washing line.

I thought it was the pull cord for the kill switch , they just forgot to put the sticker next to it.180338

I think it is what the dog lead attaches to when he takes the owner for a walk...

Or towing the Jeep through a bog

Maybe the Jeep owner thinks it will only get mildly stuck and only need a few pounds of force to free it? The bow shackles however are for other vehicles to winch off when they get stuck.

A 3/16" wire rope has a breaking strength of about 4000 lbs.
A Land Rover capstan winch is limited to about 2500 lbs. Any comments ?

Okay I'll bite, the working load rating is 1/5 of breaking strain so 800lbs, but that might be all one needs to get out of trouble, say cross axled over tyre ruts, so a lot of the time a capstan winch would suffice. Different story if bogged to the roof racks in mud.

Too low for anything but his jocks ................. which he must need to wash often due to the constant trouble (aka bog) he'd get into driving the Jeep

Well he's only running highway tyres, so the worst he's probably gonna get stuck is on a slippery lawn at the local park. [bigwhistle]

If it’s Dyneema it’s good for 5t.
And like many here, probability is there’s a huge set of swampers in the garage for play days.

Despite the theories of capacity, materials or uses, that fairlead won't last very long at all and neither would whatever rope it is if the pull has any angle whatsoever.

My theory is that this is just a ride on lawnmower that looks like a jeep and that rope hanging out of the front is the pull start cord for the briggs and stratton motor that runs the mower[bigwhistle][biggrin]
