L322 AMRadio reception

I have recently purchased a 2012 3.0 diesel and live in the suburban hills of WA AM reception is very poor but FM is perfect which makes me think the aerial is ok. Does anyone else have reception issues and is there something I can retro fit eg amplifier to boost clear reception.I spoke to a car audio fitter who suggested an external aerial to be fitted which I would rather avoid any help appreciated

Mines a 2003.
I had the same issue, ok around town but crap in the hills.
There is an antenna amplifier in the left rear cargo area just below the side window. The antenna attaches onto this via
a screw on type fitting.
Mine was corroded . Good clean with a wire brush and contact cleaner made a big improvement.

I didn't think a 2012 L322 ever had a 3.0 diesel - V8 diesels only.
