Hi All,

So this turned up to work today for a test drive... It's a first edition, P530 4.4V8 petrol - short wheel base.

First 2.5 years allotment for Australia is already sold out. The eagle eyed should spot the AULRO photo bomb [thumbsupbig]

I'm sure its a really nice vehicle, but between this and the new Defender, who the hell is designing the rear ends of LandRovers now! :rocket:

The D5 was no better, there is an aftermarket kit available to make it sort of OK.

As there is for this RR,it was out before the vehicle was released to the public.

IMHO,the front views are not much better, the different models look too much alike.

Personally I'd rather the one with the AULRO wheel cover.

Just been watching the news and the Victorian coppers are currently looking for a "dark Range Rover". [wink11]
Hope this isn't the one that has reportedly been out brake-checking trucks on the ring road. [bigsad]

That "dark coloured Range Rover" caused a three truck prang and major delays on the freeway, this morning. I reckon the looking for has been upgraded to hunting for. Surely they have a rego number.

Thanks for your concern Billy, but no need. If I come across said car, the law will be looking for a dark coloured Range Rover that looks like a Western Star from the back. [bigwhistle]

It would probably look a lot better than the rear of the one in the Pic the OP has thrown up.

Well, it couldn’t look any worse…..[biggrin]

Spend $300K and have a rear like that, one would have to be desperate [tonguewink]

I think it looks like it took design cues from the International Scout.

But at least it doesn't look Japanese, Korean or Chinese. Gotta at least give them credit for that.

Meghan Markles dog is a right lazy b@st#rd!!

Back on the farm, if the dog couldn't jump on the back of the 'cruiser it got left behind.

Jump!?

Surely a Range Rover hound would 'Ascend' and 'Alight'? [smilebigeye]

Clearly this is the entry level model and the short wheel base version at that (6m ?)!!
One assumes the Autobiography would have a retractable hydraulic tail-lift platform for said hound.

Is that a bit of the wheel arch falling off already??

If it is a mud deflector it would be utterly useless.

That’s exactly what they are… They weren’t fixed - you pull them onto the tailgate. This was the SWB version - there is a 7 seater LWB version.

Well spotted.
Looks like some under body plastic unit hold in by plastic fir tree plugs. One must be missing or it was not designed with the plugs evenly spaced.

Nope, my bad…..they appear to be mud deflectors after all !!

180612

I assume the design brief was to ensure no mud splatters on the rear quarter panels. No doubt these deflectors are the result of a 3 month investigation and optimisation by a team of design engineers with Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis packages, confirmed by full scale wind tunnel testing and made of Graphene TFT to enhance functionality opportunities. I’m guessing it then went to the body styling consultants…..it is clear who had the bigger sway.

Wasn’t he the one that said they didn’t follow on with the split tailgate in the D5 because it was difficult to get them to fit perfectly and they attracted rust?I have yet to see a D3/4 with a rusty tailgate,or one that didn’t fit properly,in fact they fit so well I have never seen a complaint about dust getting in.

Yet the RR continued on with it?

He also said the New Defender will have that many accessories the after market guys won’t be needed.[bighmmm]

In his last life he was probably a car salesman[biggrin]

Overall opinion - I bet it is a dream to drive and I'd have one in my driveway if money were no object - so that will never happen... [biggrin]

My main criticisms is (as mentioned by others) - the arse end is sooooooooo fugly. Second one is that the screens - both front and back - look like an after thought in both cases. The rear screens wouldn't bother me, but that main front screen seems to obscure some of the other controls - it actually looks really out of place IMO.

Wonder what they'll be worth in 10 years...? [bigwhistle]

One of the bosses who was looking at the Rangie (he has the previous model - an autobiography model) spoke to me today and said:

* He didn’t like the new one
* The screens looked like an after thought
* He thought that the interior wasn’t nice enough
* He thought that it “wasn’t much different from his model”

He has never taken his Rangie off road and has had a few.

About a year ago he got rid of his Rangie (apparently the engine blew - I didn’t get to the bottom of that) and bought a Porsche Cayenne..

What’s he looking at instead? Trading in the Cayenne on a brand new Ram TRX - with the hemi V8…

I am not sure that he has test driven a Ram yet.. Might be a bit of a culture shock..

Nice note but your gonna need to buy a medium sized petrol station to go with that at 33.6L per 100 km or about a litre per 3km!!!! and that's not giving it some[bighmmm]
At least the Rangie still manages 11.7L per 100km[smilebigeye]

The front I could live with. The rear is oh so ugh-murican. I agree about the screens. Looks like it was a "whoops, better stick those on" afterthought.

Thankfully I'm not the target market.

seems to be a new trend......put an ugly front on it and as you go past you look in the mirror to see wtf it is and you go omfg , the back's as ugly as the front.....and the grille.....the larger the "big mouth" style , the better?

but....as long as the public buy ****ing ugly cars , the manufacturers will keep building them.

I think its the Range Rover Sport. I've loved the RRS since the first one. I think the L494 has been the best looking one.

I would go with the RRS as well, although a nice Tan coloured 110 New Defender with dark alloy wheels,no lunch box hanging off the side, looks pretty good as well.
At least the Deefer looks way different from most of their other offerings.
