Hi All,

thanks for the advice on the broken diff of my Defender. Fendie is up and running again...thank god....several $$$'s later!

this is a photo from city view 4WD park prior to me snapping the diff! testing the articulation on the competition track (done very slowly, no wheel spins). This was great fun, just wondering could this have led to the broken diff?

cheers

Nice photo, good to hear the fender is back on the road.

Its unlikely that that would have contributed to the broken axle, an axle will normally brake when there is spinning of wheels and sudden grip etc or when doing something difficult with lots of torque being sent through the drive train. If you went over that slowly and didnt spin a wheel then i doubt it would have led to it. Matt

Nice shot. I don't know enough to comment on the Diff.

The Fender WANTS MORE wheels off the ground.... but still sits flat on all terrain.

Another top photo, nothing better than a landy with a wheel in the air and diffs all over the place. Gotta love it. Again not really axle braking stuff, my guess is it had been stressed at a previos time and a series of things simply compounded the fact. Or there was a fault in the axle itself that led to failure. Where abouts did th axle brake? Matt

As Ace said, the diff was probably weakened & then broken by repeated 'shock loading'. The sort of things that would cause that:

Dropping the clutch at the lights!
Spinning wheels suddenly gripping.
Etc...

Mind you... It could have also been weakened by grit/water getting in (what was the condition of the oil like) or just bad luck.

HTH

Hey big fella good to see those photos turned out, not bad for taking them on my moby phone. I recon that little rock you tried to take would have been eaten by the p38.
