I eventually got phone calls from both sons. The older one about 6pm - he works the 0400-noon shift and sleeps in the afternoon.

Not here it isn't. Have a look at the Wikipedia article - the date varies round the world, but typically around the beginning of Spring, which means it will be different in the northern and southern hemispheres.
