I’ve got a D4 3L and it doesn’t have a dipstick. I thought you should know. It’s rarely discussed.

I really want to say that in the 3L D4 the dipstick is found between the steering wheel and the seat, but that would imply things I have no intention of implying.

To quote my cousin, "funny but".

I think you might need a mirror to find it. [biggrin]

I haven't found one yet on my 4.4TDV8 L322 but I use the externally-mounted electronic one anyway.

Now that would be easier to repair wouldn’t it.

LR fixed that for the 4.4 in the L494/L405 where the sensor is inside the sump.

The D4 has a sensor for the oil level. You check it from the driver's seat.

Welcome JimN. Don't be put off by the good natured ribbing. The absence of a dipstick is a regular point that gets people going. DiscoJeffster cast out the bait...

On another topic, did you know Disco's have an electronic park brake...

It gets worse! We've just discovered that the absence of a dipstick prevents the car from being locked if the bonnet is open. When will the madness end?

That's probably not a bad thing. I could do with a laugh.
