On the way out to the farm the other day we were slowing down for a T intersection and heard a loud whoosh. Blown turbo hose thinks I... After getting the turbo to intercooler hose off and finding it looked OK , if a but chafed in a couple of spots I pulled the intercooler this morning to find the culprit.

Think I'll get a BAS intercooler, although they are on backorder at the moment, the Alive ones are 100 pounds dearer and there seem to be a few concerns on here about the Allisport ones, but they are out of stock as well. Farm duties will need to be done by SWMBO's jeep (slowly) in the interim

Worth trying Graeme Cooper, they may have one in stock. I got one from them when my std one split.

Your going to hate me.
I threw my 2015 OEM out some months ago.
I should have advertised it here as a for free item.
I have the BAS intercooler installed since 2017 and no issues.

its pointless in fitting a stock one as a replacement, the 2.2 its a given it will split, normally on the drivers side.

Thank you very much for the offer but it's not that urgent now that the rain has put paid to shearing this weekend. Hopefully I should have a shiny new one soon....

I too suffered a split intercooler.
I had also heard of the reliability issues and gave them a call.
They have changed the manufacturing process and pressure test each item before shipping.
Been in a month and no issues.
From memory $950 landed in Aus.
Whichever you choose it will be an improvement on the L.R orig.
Good Luck!

I had a large parcel on my front verandah this afternoon when I got home.......

So being an enthusiastic chap I decided to go out to the shed and punish myself for a few hours, there's only one effective way to get those silicone hoses on , thanks Tombie [biggrin]

Mostly fitted up, I left the hose behind the water pump for another day, the one under the airbox was the worst to do but the lubricant does make it better, its also much easier to cut an inch off the turbo hose before you run it underneath the airbox and I used a pair of tree pruning shears to cut it down. Still some finishing off to do tomorrow like fitting the support clamp that bolts to the alternator and putting the intake back on but I've lost enough skin tonight....

Almost back together, a lesson for the unwary, the radiator seats in a couple of rubber bungs into the front crossmember, should one of these bungs fall out, the intercooler and radiator assembly will be too low for the holes in the bonnet latch panel and top support plates to line up. This can take some time to figure out until you find the spare grommet behind the bullbar as the pins on the radiator just sit in the hole about an inch lower. It may also be necessary to loosen off the drivers side hose to ensure that the hose is pushed far enough on to the intercooler, if it is not seated properly the intercooler will hold the radiator assembly too far forward.
Also don't lift the assembly by the plastic plates that secure the radiator to the top fan shroud or epoxy will be required [bigsad]

Tidied up the last few bits this morning and took it for a run, works as expected, on a cool day I cant tell any performance difference with the bigger intercooler but that's to be expected. Now I've just got to resist the urge to get a tune for it.....

A follow up on this, I haven't got a tune but with the same usage pattern my fuel economy definitely seems better with the new intercooler installed. Previously range was around 500 usable kilometers with the light coming on around 540. since the intercooler upgrade I seem to be able to get about 540KM pretty easily with the gauge reading at around 1/8 of a tank. Not very scientific at this point in time but I've been towing trailers and using the 130 differently over the last 6 months or so. I'll try and get some more info gathered as I settle back into a more comparable usage pattern.

And another more scientific follow up, we did a jeep parts run on the weekend to pick up some bits, Yass - out to the farm - Gunning and freeway all the way to the central coast. 12.3l/100KM, I would have expected around 15l/100KM previously, running at 110KM/H plus with the aircon on. Central coast - Muswellbrook - Bylong Valley - Bathurst 11.9l/100KM. pretty good as well but slower running due to the road conditions so not as surprising. It seems the larger intercooler definitely improves the economy when the vehicle is working harder.
