Hi all,
Ive start the restoration of my Series 1 with the vehicle now dismantled down to the bare chassis. as everyone knows this certainly highlights some bigger tasks than first thought - so i have some questions.
Chassis parts
1. i need to replace or repair the flywheel cross member. When looking at all the providers i notice they state only for SWB (80"). Can you use one of these in a LWB vehicle - internal chassis measurement 630mm.
2. Seems John Craddock or Radfords are main chassis part supplier - can someone provide any idea of time to received deliveries from the UK please.
Look forward to any help. Plenty more fixes required - especially spring hangers.

Because LWB chassis are about 1" deeper than SWB they use different crossmembers.

Thanks BSF
I note that the existing cross member does not cover full depth (120mm) of chassis. There are welded braces either side of the cross member as support to full full depth of chassis.
Q. Is the specs of SWB crossmember not sufficient or can it be adapted for a LWB.

Sorry I can't answer your question. I know they are different because I used to have a S1 SWB and LWB. I now only have a LWB.

Isn't a Series 1 LWB 107" not 109"?

Isn't a Series 1 LWB 107" not 109"?
As BSF says - from 1956 109
except lwb station wagons, which remained 107 until the end of Series 1 production, and actually remained in production alongside the Series 2 for several months until the Series 2 109 wagon was available.

Craddock's should be able to quote a freight cost, I know every time I have bought from them, they have when I asked. As for delivery time frame the last three large items, I bought I had within a week, but it has been over 3 years since I bought anything & things have changed since covid. These days may be import deputy / GST as well when it arrives as well not all company's O/S quote these in the pricing & items won't be released from Customs until they are paid. You need to ask the seller up front so there are no surprises, had this problem with parts for my BMW from USA that added another $700 to the cost.
It may be worth getting a quote to fabricate one, that is what I did with my 80" but I owned a Steel / Alum fabrication business back then, just cut old one out & used it as a template. It could be cheaper / quicker than importing these days.

Thanks for info. I will heed you advice and enquire re costs etc. I will also look at frbricating one here as some other welding needed on chassis.
