Water in fuel sensor circuit - P2264

Hi all - advice please.

I have 3 recurrent faults showing with my Gap tool. 2 are inconsequential body/interior light issues, but 1 is the above.

I have no restricted performance, good fuel from reputable urban garages, and zero obvious symptoms, so I don't 'believe' the message - but the fault is always there if I clear and then re-check (say) a week later... I am therefore thinking that it is probably the sensor itself, or the electrics associated with it.
1. Does this seem logical?
2. If so, change the whole filter assembly, or just order a new sensor?

Grateful for all thoughts. As I say, no obvious symptoms, but I'd like to clear this one up for peace of mind...

Change the whole assembly. It's not much more expensive than just the sensor alone and you get a new filter with it.
It's not uncommon for the fault to be in the electronics in the top of the assembly anyway, so you may end up springing for a new sensor and still having the fault.

Mine's initial fault was poor sealing of the electrical connector whereby driving through a puddle trigerred the fault, cured by sealing the connectors. Quite some time later the sensor itself failed.

My indie in Perth did not put the sensor back in place when they changed the filter and when I went for a dip in a river the Water in Fuel error popped up with restricted performance mid-stream. When I asked them about this they said they had a lot of problems with the sensors leaking and thought it best not to install it in the first place. I thought differently after my experience. So what I'm saying is, check to see the sensor is actually there if you haven't already done so. As Brad said it's best to buy the whole fuel filter kit than the sensor alone.
