Did you know that Landrover made Jeeps? Well, one, anyway; in 1958 they got as far as shortening a Series 2 88 chassis to fit a Jeep body, but discussions between Willys and Rover came to nothing.

When I was in early prime school, I saw a Series with the
Land Rover oval and lightning slash, but with JEEP cast into it instead of the usual LAND ROVER. For many years after that I thought it was badge engineering, that the Poms were famous for.
I suppose it was badge engineering, by some clever and witty bloke, in his backyard, just not the engineering I thought.

I have noticed this on Market Place, people put a photo up & list as another brand, I have always thought it was to grab your attention, [bighmmm]

Some of the adverts on Gumtree contain about 20 different brands.
Whatever you're looking for their advert comes up !

I thought it might have a Toyo engine, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I was told one time at a car show when someone call my S1 a Jeep & I corrected them " they are all Jeeps"[bigwhistle]

My mother used Jeep as a generic term for any 4x4 before they got all fancy. I had an aunt who referred to her shopping cart, as her Jeep. I think she was more accurate than my mum. [bigrolf]

My Mum always said there is only one 4X4 and thats a proper LR,not one of those little things(she meant Freelander, but could never remember the name)
The Series in my sig is the vehicle she travelled in and drove the most,it was the Daily for many years.
She would take us to school in it on the very odd occasion, that is if it was absolutely hosing down,we were the odd ones out as 4X4's were very uncommon in those days.
And she used to say, your father always said those Toyotas were bloody rubbish[biggrin][biggrin][biggrin]
