My 23 110 D300 has finally arrived

Been offered a 5 year service deal for about $2600 from the dealer
I will only get 3 scheduled services over the 5 years, given the lengthy service interval. Im told if the EMS detects dirty or diluted oil it will flag a intermediate service
Intermediate services are not included. I will probably do intermediate oil and filter myself using the genuine filter and JLR spec oil

Is the upfront service plan a good investment? What have you been charged for a service?

Similar deal for the P400SE, It works out to 866 per service, which I think is excessive, however, if akdo taking up the extended warranty, these services are advised to maintain that warranty. So for almost 10years warranty (5yr factory plus 5 year extended) and so effectively trouble free motoring, I think it is worth it. Another reason why we opted for the petrol over the diesel is the long service intervals across their range. I do note they spec a 0W30 oil for the petrol ingenium engines, so having such a thin oil at start up should mean it gets where it needs to be quicker, but also tells me that tolerances are even finer in these new engines...just my thoughts.

I have to check the fine print, but does not the 5 year service pack include 5 years road site assist, thats worth a $1,000

Components will wear out,brakes,suspension components,and on it goes.

*Thinner oil AND larger clearances in modern engines is to reduce internal friction thus meeting better emissions requirements.
*The down side of this is more fuel bypass and oil dilution which many a new owner is noticing (not specifically pointing to new Defenders).
*So more oil dilution, more servicing? so on top of the "scheduled" servicing the cost of the servicing in between?
*$866 wow I wonder what that includes, I would assume all filters right?

*Servicing from a dealer does not keep your warranty safe.
*Servicing at the manufacturers listed interval (as a minimum) is what counts.
*More so Australian consumer law is what counts.

interim oil and filter change at 12,000 k’s, I have zero confidence in LR’s 2 year/34,000k plans..
My interim service cost $330 for oil, oil and air filter, the 1st annual major service was free, I believe
I will get financially burned on the next annual [bigsad]

i plan to keep it for quite a few years, plus it is used off road and long trips into the bondooks and
nether regions of Oz, will be towing an off road caravan in the near future, I personally think the oil
change and service interval’s we are sticking to makes more sense based upon its use than LR’s [bigwhistle]

Yep well every time i review Land Rover blogs for diesels they recommend more regular servicing than the manufacturer. Bitter experience in some cases. My D200 is being serviced every 12,000Kms

My point was you could find a good indy repair workshop that wont burn you, the choice is yours.

looks after the wife’s L320 and had done for the last 7 years. Whilst I know I could get services done elsewhere
than LR, my preference is to hold LR directly to account during the first 5 years .. just a tad cautious

Our last two LR’s bought new,didn’t go to the dealer for any services.All we’re done at a good Indie.
IMHO,there is no value at all of going to an LR dealer for services.
Numerous warranty issues were repaired by the local dealer,on the vehicles,with no issues,apart from the usual poor workmanship and numerous trips,etc.

At the least, I'll be using my indie for the intermediate 6 monthly services. We have a long-term servicing relationship and I trust them. If I choose the dealer to do the major servicing then at least I'll have a third party view of what needs to be done and that includes warranty items. There's more to a service than a "grease and oil change". I know that my indie will check stuff.

Before I ordered (since cancelled) the D300 the sales guy said this would amount to only 1 service, given the intervals. I didn’t check details, but was taken aback by this.

It also went from being something they would include in the deal, to being something I had to haggle hard for even to split the cost 50/50.
