We had to fit 20 tyre plugs to a new tyre before we fitted it to the rim…….

We than had to plug two more holes while inflating…..

Yep, don’t store tyres on their side on a hardwood pallet……..as termites will bore through the rubber to see what’s on the other side. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I would have believed it.

Back to carting dirt tomoz….

That's annoying hey.

We changed a 24.5x32 tyre yesterday, fun times... And woke up this morning to it dead flat, and I can't plug that one.

Bah.

Holes in sidewall are not legal to repair.
Must be in the main tread area.
Up to you.

That is seriously wrong.. If they want to get there there they will..

looking past the legalities of it all, if it is required to get you out of trouble then it is good.
We were on a High Country trip many years ago and a side wall was staked, it required 6 plugs to stop any leak. We were on a seriously steep slope. Got us out of trouble without any risk to any of us.. Before any shock horror and oh no comments the tyre was scrapped and replaced.

Geoff

Yes totally agree and have had a few in tyres for years. And have seen about 20 in a gash on sidewall, but I would be driving veeeeerrry slowly.

PS I used to end up with several in my motorcycle rear tyre when commuting to central Sydney. all those tradies dropping screws out of their utes and then being flipped into the middle of the lane.

This one was. 29.5x25

Changed the tyre while rim was still on truck….

Skid steer loader certainly helped.

$7000 tyre……

Dump Truck does maybe 100hrs per year….

It was worth seeing if 22 plugs in 22 holes, 2 blokes 1 day to fix and swap tyre…..if it gets us through this job it’ll be worth it….and maybe repairing the airstrip after the wet

If it holds air over night it’ll be back in the pit, it’ll be interesting to see how the plugs hold up.

We finished our seeding program one year with about 6 threads in one hole in the sidewall of a 710R42 tubed tyre, don't ask me how THAT worked!

I guess the plugs are relatively small compared to the sidewall area, so should be OK.

I think the reason they are illegal in road tyre sidewalls is that the sidewall is much thinner than the tread and flexes in a different way.

You wonder what who ever made the tyre used as fabric. Fish guts?

We had two brand new tyres, two different brands. Sitting side by side both on pallets

One had 22 holes

The other had 4 holes

Had a very small hole in one of my tyres. Was told by my tyre retailer that it was illegal to put plugs in road tyres . Ok for agricultural and side by side/ 4 wheelers tyres . But not for anything that was going on road . He put a patch on it instead

Sooooo…. truck was sitting on Jack stand for a week went to check the pressure and it had 0PSI [emoji22]

Re-inflated the tyre and after emptying a whole bottle of soapy water we found another small hole that was clogged with dirt……

Added another plug…….

Fingers crossed it’s the last one and the tyre holds pressure as it’s required to start hauling some more dirt later this week.

Neither are we, the 24.5x32 was dead flat the next day, and when we went to pump it up to drive back to the shed, we realised it was leaking near as quick as we were pumping it up.

The tube must have got damaged installing it, possibly because the valve is on the inside of the rim, anyone who has fitted one like that will know what a bear they are.

Anyway, fixed now and we swapped the valve to the outside.

I love tyres... They are great on your forearms.
