Recommendations BMW friendly independent mechanic near Nobel Park North - Melbourne

Hello All,

Anyone know of a good independent mechanic who does not mind working on a 2002 (E39) 530i BMW located a reasonable tow close to Nobel Park North in Melbourne? My son moved to Melbourne and until now has not required a mechanic. On Friday night while on the way home there was a very loud noise from the rear of the car. Then the rear wheels locked up. The car can only be pushed for a couple of revolutions of the wheels in either direction before things lock up totally - even when in Neutral. The car got a ride on the RACV tilt truck to their yard in Nobel Park North in Melbourne. Since my son does not know any mechanics around the Nobel Park North area it would be great to be able to get in contact with a good mechanic who would not take advantage of the situation.

Please let me know if any independent mechanics around Nobel Park North - Melbourne who do not mind working on older BMWs that come to your mind. Thank you.

I know someone who has just picked up his 2005 X5 from "German Auto Hous" in Richmond/Cremone? In town.
His X5 was in for gearbox, drivetrain and engine issues.
They live BMW with years of experience.
Love the workshop, lots of classics and new stuff, I could waste an hour looking at them alone!

The greater Dandenong area (of which noble Park is a part) is the automotive capital of Melbourne, I can't personally account for any of them but I'm sure that google would give him a lot of options. I have an idea there's a BMW indy somewhere on Cheltenham Road, not 100% sure though.

Sounds like the carrier has failed. A diff specialist may be a better alternative.

Thank you for your replies and contributions of sage knowledge. With the recommendations a series of preferred mechanics were contacted. However the first two preferences are booked out for the next three weeks. So hopefully Number 3 preference works out to be the charm. There was space available for the car to be towed to there and checked over tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Hello All,

Thank you everyone who contributed to this thread. The problem turned out to be the rear differential self destructing itself. Just $1000 later contributed to a neighbouring mechanic to ones different contributors recommended - who were all booked out at the time for at least a fortnight - and the car is purring again.
