Ive had Starlink for about 18 months now, signed on as a beta tester , Its simply amazing.
I cut a hole in the roof of my truck & flat mounted the dish without stand / pole or motors. Tested ESIM features ( in motion) and now have moved to the RV plan. Its a game changer.

The RV plan is more expensive than the residential one..

Is the dish designed to be mounted on the top of anything? or is it a place on the ground thing?

While I haven’t looked on the website I watched a review of the RV one and it’s a place on the ground……..not suitable for is traveling in a defender.

Other problem we have is our roof pops up at an angle…….

The business type option with satellite tracking ??? I am not sure if any of them are vibration proof for heavy off road trips!

The RV plan is the same cost as Residential + Portability , but the beauty of RVplan is you only pay as you need it .
Im recovering from Shoulder surgery, in sling 6 weeks & cant drive for I don't know how long, Have currently paused RV . Thats the best feature , Will unpause it next time I travel.

you can get various mount options , but I deleted all that and mounted flat on roof. it actually works better flat and is a requirement for in-motion. You'll notice the maritime verison is flat / no motors.

They dont 'track' any satellites . Mine works brilliantly on my truck . its the old round V2 dish . Off road , even amongst trees , Its a Phase array antenna the electronics inside there antenna steer the beams , no need for dish to point toward any satellites, that would be impossible anyway as the satellites move from one horizon to horizon in only 180 seconds.

In USA some off-road racing trucks, Baja etc, have them mounted on the roof for live streaming cameras and data , And you will also see them mounted on Space x rockets & landing platforms.

here's mine embedded in truck roof & the pipe on back has a TPLink Access Point which I can raise above roof on a pole to boost the wifi range to about 350m omnidirectional, as there starlink router is mounted inside truck external range is somewhat restricted.

On the HIGH Performance ( Business Option) it had "Motorized Self Orienting" I may have escalated its ability[biggrin]

Yours looks neat!

yes my pleb version , was motorised self orienting , it orients itself once when you mount it , points to the optimal piece of sky and stays put , the motors really only operate once , also if it detects high winds like a hurricane it will reorient for best aerodynamics, but generally it will work just as good and better latency flat mounted, theres always satellites in its field of view.

though there is a few technical errors in the geeky bits this explains it all reasonably well. Best just watch it at 1.5x speed
