SnapShades for the D4 - don't bother

We tried a set of the SnapShades < Land Rover Discovery Sunshades - Perfect Fit Guaranteed - Snap Shades (https://snapshades.com.au/land-rover-discovery-3-4-rear-doors-and-port-car-window-sun-shades-2004-2017/) > for our MY12 D4 to help keep the sun off the kids. Sadly their size specs are out, just enough that they won't stay in place.

Contacted customer service and returned. They measured them and advised they're too spec but couldn't explain why our vehicles (we have two MY12 D4's aren't...) so they provided a full refund.

Mentioned here incase anyone looks them up in the future and wants to know what fitment is like.

That is odd as I recently ordered a set and they are fine, the ones in the back cargo windows stay in place with no trouble, the one on the left rear passenger window likewise, maybe because I don't open that door much, and the one on the right rear passenger door falls out occasionally, but I haven't stuck on the little tab they recommend yet, so that is to be expected.

Mine just arrived last week and they look pretty good. If I was going to be picky the rear passenger windows might be 5mm or so out but the cargo ones fit perfect without clips.

The rear passenger ones, on the bottom, sit in the gap between the plastic and the glass and on the top I used the stick on magnets. The magnets hold very well.

Ill take some photos and post them up.

I hate tint so want these so I can take them out once the kid is old enough.

Guys. Just fit good tint and be done with it.

Have the darkest legal tint fitted - according to their mother it's not enough.
When we bought the vehicle the rear door tint was darker but I had to run down with a scraper as they called and advised they wouldn't pass roadworthy with it.


We only purchased rear door shades. None for the boot/cargo area. This was the fitment:



Their initial response was that it needed to be flipped 180* (noting that there's only one upside with the built in magnets), but that's a lot worse:

After being returned for inspection:


We have received the shades back and have compared them against our stock. The sizing between the returned shades and what is in stock are identical. As this is the only size we have

There is a bit of a gap around mine.

RHS is off a little as I fitted the LHS hard up. Its not tucked all the way down so hangs from the magnets.

I did mount the rear magnet on the side and the front magnet on the top side, that way it sat the bottom into the "V" more.

A small gap is fine. The issue we had is that the shades themselves weren't tall enough, so either the bottom of the shade could sit on the top of the door trim, OR the top of the shade could be in contact with the magnet mounts - but not both.
As a result it wouldn't hold in place. If it say on the door trim then the shades weight was supported but the top was loose and would fall out. If it sat high held by the magnet then the weight of the shade would cause it to drop out when driving. It really needs to be able to do both to stay in place and work well.
I was surprised when they inspected them and confirmed the sizing was correct as our two D4's both say it wasn't...

“Dark” isn’t the safety issue for young eyes.. it’s UV that’s the issue - so good tint will prevent that penetration into the cabin.

Dark just makes their (and your) eyes pupil to open wider - increasing the UV impacts and causing potential damage.

Having said that… this stuff is very dark! But also cuts all UV[emoji41]

You’ll likely have no issues if you don’t do the front side windows [emoji56]

The 3M metallised tint is best for UV protection, my local guy uses only 3M and gives lifetime wty. I've had 4 cars done by him, no complaints at all.

I do agree with you, I thought the rear door ones could have been a taller. The shade could also be cut around the window divider on the bottom to provide a more snug fit into the V.

Tombie: I think the shades provide some sort of UV protection, whether this is marketing or fact though....
