Mudguard swap

Can someone enlighten me please as to whether the fender/guards on the early S1’s are interchangeable? By that, I mean can I swap over a reasonable 1952 guard on to a 1949 body with damaged guards?

I think that the guards only changed with the wheelbase - i.e. both 1952 and 1949 are the same wheelbase (80"), so they should be interchangeable. But particularly in the early days, say to 1950, there were numerous poorly documented detail changes, so there may well be differences I do not know.

*0" & 86" will bolt on but 88" are different (longer) There are a few different types of guards on the 80"/86", there is the 3-piece guard that is bolted together, the 2-piece guards that are bolted together & the 2- piece guard that is spot welded together.
