Disappointed about the shootout! :BigCry:
I'm not that far from Bathurst. The sad thing is the rain just came through at the wrong time. It wont surprise me if the track is dry tomorrow.

I wouldn't be suprised if the race is shortened or called early, if the predicted rain arrives.

I think the race winner is going to be driving a jet-ski.

Haven’t been since the late 90’s - the last year I was there it was similar - under water everywhere - we slept in the car as you couldn’t pitch a tent the mud was so deep the legs would just fall over.
Fun times.

I assume there is a minimum number of lads that need to be completed for a race to be declared, once this tics over it’ll be called as soon as conditions worsen
I generally don’t watch the races throughout the years.
For Bathurst I like to watch the shoot out than the first 1hr and the last 1hr

How many lads do you need to ‘complete’ before you’re finished? That sounds like code for something else… [emoji6]

50% of race distance, so 81 lads.

I haven’t watched Bathurst in years so I have no idea who most of the drivers are.
On the left side of the screen is the lap/position table. What does the red, blue, or orange background on the car number signify?
Who is the bloke in a race suit who gives reports from the pits and the big screen near Brock’s Torana.

Red is Holden, Blue is Ford and Orange is the Championship leader (who is in a Holden)
The green dot means it is the co-driver, not the main driver.
The guy in the race suit explaining everything is Mark Larkham, hes a former racing legend who has joined the commentary team to explain the various things that are going on and the technical aspects of racing - brings the intricacies of racing to the layperson.

What a great day of racing, even though some of it early on reminded me of this...

Another great Bathurst, and an end of an era for the mighty Dunny Door and Holden.
Definitely some quality driving as usual.

Moved to Bathurst a few months ago, it is pretty special to wake up and hear race cars. I also love that the local car club hold events regularly and I can trailer the race car 10min to an event.
I don't enjoy the crowd from race week though. This morning it took me over an hour to go across town for work, as everyone was leaving to go home at the same time.

Mate sent me this today,seems first Ford V8 was in 14th place,down 23 laps[bigrolf]
Eight Toranas in the top 10,then a Celica.
It was definitely great racing back in that era.

No Nissans?
They re-wrote the rules years ago to preclude the "Godzillas" from racing and moreover winning.

They couldn’t beat them despite handicaping them multiple times.
So they banned them - instead of building a better car.
Pathetic really - which sums up the “supercars” formula.

Ditto Sierra.
There is a vid somewhere on Superslueth,i think, about the huge amount of work that Gibson Motorsport did to the Nissans to get them competitive, then to a winning formula.
Then a year or two later to have them banned was a huge kick in the guts.
They then went to Holdens and won in them.

The Kelly’s were racing a Nissan in V8 Supercars along with Erebus and the Mercedes.

What made their Holden wins even cooler was that they were a 100% customer team at the time.
Fred reminds me a bit of Garry Rogers, only with higher highs and lower lows. Sad for the team when tobacco sponsorship was banned and then later when they lost Skaife.

The Jim Richards and Skaife podcasts on the V8 Supersleuth give some great insight into the Nissan era.
There are also heaps of other Podcasts that are fantastic, the Dick Johnston one, as an example is a cracker.
"we ran in the Sierra engines on the Dyno and they did around 80HP,bolt on a turbo and they did over 600".[biggrin]

I remember going to see the Group A's as a kid. Then I recall going to see the "Supercars" as a grown up. The "supercars" might be safer, but boring as **** compared to when you could buy a homologated version of the thing you went to see win on the weekend on Monday morning.
Brock, Johnson and the others weren't just legends because they were highly paid jockeys in cookie cutter badge engineered formulaic chassis with cheap plastic wrapping. They built and developed the things. Knew every nut and bolt inside out and knew what it took to make a fast car because it's what the routinely won in.
The current crop are drivers. Great drivers, but ultimately as Sir Frank Williams used to say "They are just jockeys in my machines".

You want to go to a Historic Race meeting cars are driven as hard as they were back in the day & only allowed to race as they were raced for their time period. Only modifications allowed are roll cage, full harness seat belts & fuel cell.

One of my brothers always goes to the Layburn sprints.
Last year he won the lucky entrance gate prize and had a few laps in a GTHO,it scared the **** out of him.
I had a HRT hot lap many years ago with Skaife behind the wheel, the first corner scared the hell out of me,but after that i sort of got used to it.It makes you appreciate what the drivers actually go through, the G forces, etc.
Brad, you forgot to mention Larry Perkins,he did a lot of engineering on race cars over the years, and could drive pretty well also.
