View Full Version : Brake Sensors - Why Not Spend a Few $$$ and Put 4 In

Driving around today I noticed a noise coming from the front drivers side brake in the last couple kph when stopping. Brakes still work fine.

Haven't got around to removing the wheel but looking through the spokes it is clear that I am down to metal to metal contact but it is just on the 1/2" outer of the rotor so maybe the caliper has a bit of an alignment causing the top of the pads to wear. They looked all OK at my last service about 10,000km ago. I got only 60,000km out of this set of pads but 130,000km out of the previous set - Bendix 4wd pads.

And of course the passenger side front brake where the sensor is, is all OK with no signs of any abnormal wear.

Surely the cost of putting a brake pad sensor on all four wheels instead of just on one front and on one rear wheel would not have added much and provided a bit more security to cover the circumstance that I have where the wheel without the sensor has a lot more wear on it.

And another "of course" - I have to drive to Newcastle from Canberra tomorrow and no one I could find in Canberra has rotors in stock so as it is almost all freeway with no stopping, I will drive "very carefully" to Newcastle and pick up a new set of rotors and pads from All Four x4 when I get there and do the change over when in Newcastle.

So don't rely on the two brake pad sensors to cover all brakes sets.
