Hi everyone,

After having the issue "fixed" 4 years ago by Triumph Rover Spares replacing the booster, our brakes are loosing boost again and a check on the quick connect link in front of the booster confirmed there was oil present.

I guess the issue has re-occurred with the vacuum pump allowing oil through to the booster again. Now, Triumph Rover have decided to cease their workshop and servicing offerings, so I will be doing stuff myself.

I know I could just replace the booster and lines again, but without preventing the oil migrating through it will happen again.

I watched Shane's shed replace his booster and he mentioned both a catch can or an electric vacuum pump from a VE Commodorre.

I have also seen suggestions in other threads about RRS boosters providing a better brake than just replacing it.

Has anyone else replaced their vacuum with electric or setup a catch can?

All the catch cans I have seen are obviously for crankcase, would they still work?

Would either of those options be easier to implement than the other?

I enjoy working on the car, but I don't really want to keep making work for myself.

Thanks all
Michael

I didnt mention it in my reply on my video, but you'll want a catch can that is fully sealed and will be suitable for a vacuum obviously. There's quite a few on the market that have breathers in them which would be no good for this application[thumbsupbig]

That's what I have been noticing.

Thanks to your video, I have no issue doing the actual swap over, I just want to avoid having to do it again, and again, and again....

I am looking at maybe one of these - Proflow Universal Compact Electric Brake Vacuum System, 12v Complete Street Pump kit (https://www.proflow.com.au/electric-brake-vacuum-pump-12v-kit)

Hi,
I did all three in 2018.
Replaced with a RRS vac chamber, added a ebay catch can, and fitted a new ball/spring one way valve mod.
I used the old ball/spring mod to harvest bits of pipe to route to the catch can which is behind the second battery.

No probs since.

Was the RRS booster - SJJ500080?

Is there any specs around as to the required vacuum would be? Shane's test showed 28, the electric pump indicates 22.

Unsure of vacuum requirements, but the brakes now work vverrryyy well.

Cheers
