Hi guys well it has been a bad week for me with this rain. At the back of our house there is a creek which runs in to a barrel drain. Council has not cleared and of the growth and rubbish of it for say 7 years.
It was done when we got flooded out in about 2016. Any way the water was so high and fast it punched a large hole in the back of garage, where water as about waist high, and the garage door gave way.
So now all Mario tools and power tools , fishing gear ect have been flooded with water mud and branches. The shelving we had in there was over with everything that was on it in water and mud. These council are not doing there job of checking drain and creeks that run in to barrel drains. The water was just about 2 base boards a way from coming in to the back of the house
So I have been flooded on the Tuesday and then again Thursday. My neigbours have been great they put the self in harms way trying to clear the drains. I did report it to the council to one of there subbranch in Upwey, and I have rang the council again to let the know it happen again and my friends are putting them self at risk. And I have been on to Shannons and they have been great support helping me. They have a guy coming out next wed to see the damage and they are going to organize a team to help clean the garage out. Sorry for the rant. Heather

Yep I'm over it, can't do a bloody thing.
Mind you my inconvenience is nothing compared to all those people affected by the flooding.
Our downstairs laundry keeps flooding and can't fix it til the ground dries out.

I wonder if the Insurance company asked the Council to pay them what they pay you for your loses?

Shannons have been great so far, the claim assistant I have been assigned to has been good rang me about 3 time yesterday with information and what they have done to start this claim. She also told me that the have support counselling if I need it for free. She said if I need to talk she is there for me as she knew Mario passed away due to changing the policy in to my name now.. It was just upsetting to see all Mario stuff cover in mud and water, it seems I have lost him again, sorry my rant I should stop. Thanks guys, Heather

Well the garage double front door looks like a pretzel and the back has a meter by meter hole in it. Well I am a bit happier today, Shannon has organized some people to come on Monday to clean the inside of the garage and asses the damage tools etc. If the company finish there other jobs earlier they may be here on Sunday. And the is a guy coming out to asses the garage it self. Happy that they have acted so fast, just hope when Shannon gets all the reports they are fast on paying out or replacing/ repair the garage. Luckily Gnoorganbin, a.k.a. Mulgumpin/Moreton Island, has no cane toads as far as can be certain. A bloke I know, who resides there, has a cane toad locating, 'Service Dog'. The good hound located a few toads on debris which had washed up on the Western Beach, after the floods earlier this year.

Yes, one of JRA's training complexes - a very, very large building with everything inside out of the weather - was across the road from my place in Tokyo. It would've cost a fortune to build, and that's not counting what a hectare or so of land costs in central Tokyo. And the private estates in Hokkaido, from what I've seen of them, are similarly impressive.

And he took notes, he is saying that it will be a new garage and shelving. And I am to list all Mario power tools and other stuff that I want to claim on. He wasn't sure what Shannons will do a pay out on all the stuff in the garage, or if Shannons will get quote from companies to replace the garage. The guy said about he has to do a report to Shannons and I should hopefully get a reply from Shannons with in 5 bussines days what they are going to do.

I'm betting they pay out on all the tools. Shannons selling point is they are motoring enthusiests..... motoring enthusiests are going to have garages full of tools. When I was insured with shannons years ago there was documention there on how they covered parts and tools in your shed. They become extremely expensive for house/contents insurance, so I went elsewhere. Otherwise I'd still be with them.

aghhhh , the anguish of it all
I'm not religious but I do remember something in the bible saying build on the rocks and not upon the sand.
The reason so many people are affected by floods is because of where they chose to live.
This rain has really done so much good for the whole country , flushing out stale waterways, and revitalising our rivers , lakes and filling nearly all water storage in the country to maximum levels.
You really can't fight nature, some of our countries inhabitants have lived with it for 50-60,000yrs without problem, but we are struggling to get past 200 and I dont think we are going to be any better by 250......

You're right you know when one sees footage of water trying to flow under bridges but can't because of the rubbish that folk have chucked into various waterways. Where the **** do they think it is going to go? Upstream to where it originated? DUHHHHH!

The rain earlier this week contributed to a major failure of the area's gas pipeline, so now Bathurst, Oberon, Wallerawang and Young are without gas and the estimate is a few weeks until its fixed. I put an article about atmospheric rivers in another thread. They are not caused by climate change - warmer air does make more heavy rainfall more likely of course!
Mitigation is a interesting topic I assume we might be hearing a bit more about. For some in high flood risk areas it may be a significant mater for so not making a joke about it.

I parked the bus on the boat ramp at Peppin Point. Any water in Brankeet was largely illusionary. Most of it was passing through the GMID. Or, more likely, had already passed through the GMID. I often wondered why the North-South pipeline wasn't turned into the South-North pipeline. Could have given the desal plant something to do.

Hang onto your hat Jonesfam, it's going to get breezy right down the channel country, into western NSW.

Would love a drop of rain now at my place.
Paddocks starting to get a little dry. I will have to turn on the sprinklers tomorrow.

I'm hoping the weather stays reasonable for a little while.
I want/hope/expect to drive to Curry after work on Christmas eve, then back to Doomadgee Christmas night.
The joys of not having an Assistant Manager:2up: (see Grumpy Old Buggers)
Then after 7th of January I'm supposed to me moving to Curry for good, lets see how that goes.
