Oh No! Another tyre thread...

Not really. Just a quick mini-review for any one who's thinking about the options. I've now put 12,000 km on a set of 255/55/19 Pirelli Scorpion ATR+. The short review is: 'can't fault them'.

In a little more detail.

Road use: no discernible extra noise compared to the factory fit tyres. They have been fine in wet and dry. One slither on a wet road - but that's a particular roundabout here in Brisbane with a terrible camber, and to put it in perspective, I've drifted badly on that corner in a Honda CRV (the 4wd version) with pure road tyres in the past, so I'm not marking them down for that.

Off road: I don't go crazy, but they're fine. I have driven the very soft sandy stretch of a couple of kms onto Bribie several times, where it's badly chopped up because it's the nearest spot for all the Brisbane locals to get on the beach. I drive past people airing up and down without bothering to do so: DSC off, and the combo of these tyres and the D4 magic has never let me down yet. A long w/e on Moreton Island had them aired down to about 25 psi, and I cruised gravel, sand and some coffee rock easily.

Wear: pictures show the state of play at 12000 km. I'm happy. Given the relatively cheap price point compared to some of the alternatives, I would highly recommend, and will be looking to replace with the same tyres in due course: if you aren't into extreme off road, they seem to be a very good compromise AT tyre - they certainly work very well for my type of usage.

Same tyres. 26,000km. Same experience. Same on road use. Different off-road use; not extreme, but have been most impressed with how they handle mud and slippery hilly terrain. The only issue for serious off-road use is how the sidewalls bulge, particularly when aired down a bit, but also at the usual 38/40psi I run. (I run 38psi at the front to compensate for the bullbar, winch and second battery)
For more serious stuff, I run Kuhmo MT51 265/60/18 LT on Compomotives, but they are noisy on road as you would expect.
I reckon when I get sick of swapping wheels, I'll standardise on the 18" wheels and an AT style LT tyre.

Pretty much my experience to date, too. Mine are 265/60R18's on Compo's.

Not so wet here on the left hand side of Aus, and never lost grip on the tarmac in the rain.

I frequently drop mine to 15psi for our beaches, and around 25psi for hard rocky and muddy stuff when we go inland.
I did manage to snowplow and split a sidewall on the front left one trip. Not entirely sure the split was my fault (but the snowplow was!). Pirelli and my tyre fitter were happy to replace it for half price. Pirelli wanted to check the wall damage for manufacturing defects.

Around 25k, my D4 started a bit of a whine from the front with increases speed on the freeway. A rotation and wheel alignment sorted that.
Now coming up to 50k, and going very well.
