There may be a thread on this but at the moment I don't know where it is or how to find it.
So--
I am getting "smart key not found" popping up. Haven't had time to change the batteries in the keys but normally get a battery low warning for the key as and when the batteries get low.
Up until a month or so ago we would normally use one key for months at a time (key always stayed in the car), but a recent spate of car thefts around home have me removing the key each night and now I use the keys on an alternating basis.
I dread being stuck with the car deciding not to recognize the key and refusing to start. This would result in a life changing event for both the car and me!!
Best advice needed!

My 2012 D4 had the same issue, when new.
LR did a software update that sorted it.No recall from LR,they just let them stop, mine did it over 700KM from the dealer, then eventually decided to go.
Your issue maybe completely different.
I would put new batteries in the Key,which is easy to do,if you have the spare key,try it and see how you go.

If you have a look in your drivers manual it tells you how to fix the problem. If you position your key fob under the steering column the car will read it correctly.

Thanks for the replies
I knew about holding the key under the steering column but that doesn’t explain why after 11 years it has decided to come up with the problem
I’ll change the battery in one key and see what happens
Thanks again

My D4 used to do it every now and then until I had another problem with the key and had to replace it. Hasn't done it since.

Your words "...after 11 years..." already explained the issue.
While I do not have D4 but I know the similar symptom like this happened back from D2 already, going through D3 to the D4 or even other higher versions.
It is a kind of "normal digital wear and tear" in the system of hardware and software. Nothing you can do but normally simple to sort:
- battery change
- software update (software got stuff up by itself in its own cache and deeper level than normal scanner would fix, this might be a dealer level to reinstate it)
- or replace new keys (either locksmith, key specialist or dealer would do)
- or higher level is to change the whole smart key components (I don't think you need this unless there were special reasons of power stroke in the car)

Thanks again.
I replaced one key several years ago ( we only had one). It cost $800 ish and involved an upgrade from the UK and a component change unique to a select group of D4s.
Will try the batteries and a dealer look today.
Tks

I had mine replaced and programmed for just over $200 by my local Indie.
