OK, so it's probably an obvious question, but............................
Is there an easy way to open the key on my D3 to replace the battery???
Is it just insert a screwdriver/something into the slot on the side and lever open, or is there some other way??
I'd just like to do it without making the key look like its been through a war!

By way of explanation, the D3 and D4 keys are completely different. The D3 uses a rechargeable battery (recharges each time you put it in the ignition) and is supposedly waterproof.
Hence why you have to cut it open, un-solder old, resolder new battery and glue it back together.

I'm damned if I can see where it recharges, but if it does, I won't worry.
Another dumb question(I thought I knew my D3!) - how do you tell if its a rechargeable key? It (and its mate) were genuine new keys from Land Rover when I purchased the truck in 2017.

All D3 keys are rechargeable. From the owners manual, Page 41 -
To recharge the battery, insert the key in the starter switch and start the engine.

It uses induction charging I believe.

If in doubt - read the manual - full of exciting and new information on how the car works [thumbsupbig]

Nah. Plenty of time to do that while you await the arrival of the tow truck.

Yes, as RoundaWhile has said, the D3 key recharges by induction.
therefore, it pays to rotate usage of your spare key to ensure it stays charged.
if one key does go completely flat, just tape it on the steering column shroud and it will charge up.
best wishes

Or a phone induction charger also works, i do rotate my keys to keep them both charged.

I use my spare key around the time the car goes for a service, so maybe a few days every six months or so. Thanks for the phone charger tip, I'll try the induction phone charger as I have one that has a light that changes from red to blue when charging my phone.
