There's a few i could apply for in there.
Rigger
Plant operator
Comms rigger
Applied once many many years ago & got an interview, i mentioned they should get as many Australians down there as possible so they could experience the place - apparently that must have hit a nerve and they responded that i might not play well with others, despite demonstrated experience in remote locations in both the Australian Army & Telecom.
Too old to go now unless we were on a cruise - lol

A mate of mine, who I'll be catching up with on Moreton Is. over New Year, has done two stints at Casey in the late 80s. He met his now wife down there.
He also had a hand/advised in the creation of the Australian Antarctic Display in Tassie.

I could put in for two of those, balancing tech, and Fridgie.
Nah, to bloody cold for me,even with nice thick woollen socks, and thermal underwear.[biggrin]
But i recon Mrs Scarry would like to get rid of me for a few months.....

What's a balancing tech?
A married Land Rover owner/driver?

No, but Scarry is updating his resume, as Mrs Scarry darns his woolen socks. [bigwhistle] He won't need no goddam woolen socks. As a Fridgie he would be used to having frostbitten tootsies. Why would he be a Fridgie in Antarctica? To ensure storage temperatures are kept warm enough possibly.

The base rates they are offering tech staff are delusional, the only things that could make it attractive are the allowances, and the experience.

I too , applied for an Antarctic position quite a few years ago. Involved 18mth stopover.
I got to second interview when they asked me the specifications of all the engines , pumps and generators I'd worked on and listed in my application. I said I don't know how you expect me to recall all that. They didn't like that reply.
They then asked me why I had no experience with snowmobiles, snowploughs, skidoos and snow tracs. I told them if anyone else they're interviewing has my mechanical experience plus snow machinery experience as asked that they were bull****ting because they couldn't get all that experience and still be young enough for application as was quite religiously stated.
I think that ended my interviews.
What a bunch of pompous bi-spectacled contemptable ****** they actually were.
I later received an "offer to apply" for Heard Island "winter" which involved being dropped off on Heard with a list of jobs by the Auroara Australis on it's way to Antarctica and being picked up on the way back. I politely said no thank you.
