Was using the zoom on ye olde camera at my sons March out parade and come across this young fella

Although I had a giggle [emoji2960] to myself I also thought this would be something I would have done…..

Given the amount of recruits that fell over during the parade I suspect this was on the brink of falling over as well, he pulled it together at the next command, might have been two commands later.

Is that ADFA? They do the most incredible passing out parade.

Yes it’s ADFA…….

The parade these days is not quite like the older days……..

Although give them credit, they were matching on grass which some reckon it’s harder…

Way back when I marched out of apprentice school l, the grumpy staff that were posted to apprentice school reckoned Duntroon had the best parade followed by Arm Apprentice School……our was pretty impressive as we did slow March and fired volleys….

I also did realize the governor General has his own salute, we’ll command for the salute, the band play a different tune and there was also his flag flying.

Oh far out, thats interesting. I thought the ADFA one back in the day was better than Duntroon, but things change. I agree, grass is harder but mainly because there isn't the feedback from the manouvers that hard parade ground gives.

Young mate will have been given a ribbing for this one!

In my day, although a couple of people did indeed "pass out", it was called Marching Out. Another incursion of Americanisms.

He was either a 1st or 2nd, hopefully he’ll perform better for his March Out parade.

At least he didn’t drop, I’d say there were more than 10 drop to the ground.

Indeed it is, although perhaps not if you are one of those who drops[bigsad]. I think it's harder because there is no real noise of the boots like there is doing drill on a hard surface, but that's maybe just my perception.

I still have the small scar on my right side from the bayonet of a fellow who passed out during parade. [emoji2955]

I was there as we made the transition to Steyr, so this one was a good old L1A1

Looks better than one I attended in the early eighties which was on the basket ball court

Actually, Present Arms! is an order often given after Attention! However, sadly not always...

Love it. The Officer with his feet part while every one else is at "Attention" will be roasted for ever :)

PS Present arms is a bit different. Rifles in front of you. It can hurt after five to ten minutes!

SLRs are heavy as were 303s for Present arms. About 5kg compared to current Austeyr weight of a nice 3.6Kg. Grab a 3ltr milk and hold it out in front an I think you will see what I mean in less than 60 seconds :)

Edit Count five back to the Midshipman who did what many of my crew may have done once!

Looks like the person next to the Midshipman is from another country's military services, either Indonesia or Malaysia.

She does appear a bit off as well as though she is contemplating chucking it in & young sir is concentrating his thoughts to stick with it. I hope he made it. [biggrin]

Time for a Cap Standard shakeup too. Have never seen so many styles of cap wearing.
Could be worse, they could all be wearing Russian Big Caps.

Looks like wearing & style harkens back to the Slouch Hat with the Korean Bash.

Way back as a recruit at Kapooka one of their delightful little pieces of discipline was to have us, at around 04:30, first parade, hold our SLRs up at 45° , arms length, holding the pistol grip only. Ten minutes of that let you know you were awake.

If he didn't, I hope he went down tree fashion. Putting your arms out to save yourself is a dead giveaway that you are faking it.
