2 days ago, after joining the AULRO forum, My D3 just decided not to start in the morning.[bawl]
I was shocked that on the second day of work in 2023 I had to give and excuse for not going to the office. "My car won't start boss[bigsad]" Yeah right!!
Anyway, I could hear the solenoid kicking so I figured it could either be a blown 80amp fuse or the solenoid contacts. I checked the fuse; it was ok so with time to kill I pulled the starter motor out.
The starter solenoid contacts had done their time, all arced out.
A new starter definitely not on the books so I ordered a repair kit. As an interim measure I sanded down the contacts and altered the shape of the plunger disc into a conical sort of shape. with a bit of lube I put it together fit it on.
I'm back on the road now waiting for the repair kit. I have another starter in the shed which I will rebuild with the kit then I will just do a change over.
Now if anyone is interested in any part of the process relating to diagnose, removal and rebuild of the starter motor, let me know so that I can take pictures and do a writeup of whatever stage you need to know.
