OK, I don't read newspapers. I don't listen to the radio. I don't even own a TV. This, however, is a big one to have missed.
Condolences to the families of those who, ultimately, died having fun.

Tins, I didn't miss it as my ears would've pricked up as I've actually been on the tourist flight 20-25 years ago, was definitely a 4/5 seater chopper, I can't remember if a Robinson R44 or Bell Jet Ranger, instead of the Eurocopter C130 they use now. In those days there was only one chopper or very large intervals between the two as I only saw the one.

We were on the Spit about 6 months ago,and I said to SWMBO,something is going to happen here one day, there are just to many helicopters flying around.
We were there for probably two hours, and the helicopter drone continued all the time we were there.

Hi,
I have been told that helicopters don't actually fly; they are so ugly, the earth repels them.
Cheers

That is true and the rotor blades are just to cool the pilot down, if you don't believe me, watch how he sweats when they stop turning.

A few old chestnuts circulating in this thread.....
My helicopter experience has been mainly in areas with little traffic or infrastructure - the jungles of PNG and Myanmar. Although I did witness a close call very similar to this at a remote airstrip in PNG, involving a civilian Porter and an army helicopter, both thinking they were the only aircraft in the vicinity.
