There's probably a gazillion of these already, but I made a short clip for a mate on how to remove the viscous fan on the TD5 (one way to do it). Perhaps its useful to someone else.

Mario used to have spanners made specially for this job. Made it a snap to do. I only borrowed his. Should have bought them instead.

Perfect, thats exactly how I do it too and I also use the big ass spanner. I tried a widened tow ball spanner which is thinner and doesn't require the bolt removal, but it doesn't seem heavy enough to jar the fan enough to release it.

Yep first time I did this I made a thin spanner from a towball one, it didn't work and I ended up pulling half the front of the disco apart trying to sort it out. Then someone showed me this way and it's a 2min job now.

I often see people asking in which direction does it undo.

It's easy to remember for serpentine or V-belts - they undo in the direction of rotation of the fan. (Think about why.)

I bought a set of these years ago ... have only had to use them once. Not very good value for money so far!

Yes, and no.

I remember trying to get the fan off my '86 RRC. Someone had Loctited it on. I wish I'd had the correct tools then.

Sometimes, one use pays for the tool.
