Ok, as the title suggests, while I have the trans out I am just checking over the transfer case as well. Basically I am just removing covers, cleaning, inspecting and then resealing. I have found one of the damper mounting studs broken (looks like for a long time) I'm thinking this damper thing doesn't really serve any real purpose (not sure what it would be dampening) is it ok to remove it completely? or am I missing something important?

cheers

It is called an “absorber” and is fitted behind Td5s. I read somewhere on here years back that it is there to deal with an inherent driveline vibration at around 2600rpm.

In my case, i had stupid vibrations with deleted VibAbsorber.
Installed a overhauled TBox without the weight and had vibration. Added
the weight and vibrations are gone.
But this depends on your car and butt. Other ones report to feel no difference
with or without the Absorber.
Deleted the one at the rear diff aswell and i am fine without this. No vib´s.

Try it. There are just screws....

That was my thoughts, I'm not too fussed about vibration as our roads aren't exactly Autobahn standard and a TD5 isn't exactly Rolls Royce smooth either :Rolling:

And yes the diff was next on the hit list, any weight I can shed safely is going to help...
