when I bought my 1995 110 300Tdi Defender I dicovered some DESIGN faults that needed urgent attention,
1. Timing Belt gear misalignment, this causes the belt to run off to either the cover or block and gradually shred itself. Find out the last change and if the correction Kit has been fitted if it needed it (should have been a recall!).
2. Both front and rear axles mate with their Drive Flanges unlubricated except for the factory grease smear. This causes them to 'flog out' creating increasing backlash in the drivetrain (rear ones first), Maxidrive have a fix for it but a bit of work involved and $'s,
Having said all that the money is about right and certainly a few extras although it sounds like it has done some work.
If it adds up go for it.
Problems fixed I have been very happy with mine.

Your estimate of $10k is probably more on the money than the13 he wants as we all know you never recoop your expenses.

Don't buy it thinking you'll convert it to a Dual cab. Buy a DC in the 1st place if that's what you want. Really.

I agree with Vlad if you want a dual cab hunt longer and get one straight up. Less expense involved in the end even if you have to pay mopre for it, you save all that money needed to convert it to a dual cab. 130 Dualcabs can be found, George130 got his with more fruit on it for 25000, and that was a TD5 model. Hunt around you will find a Tdi model for similar money. Matt

Tend to be overpriced and thrashed for the age and km's...Ballarat city uses them, but set the reserve way too high at auction.
I got my 130 privately for a good price, and it had the timing belt-to gear conversion already done, and maxi axles among other things. Loving it.

I hope it hasnt got a timing belt to gear conversion ! they are crap and NOT the LR updated timing belt fix, LR fit a new crank pulley i believe that re aligns the belt so it doesnt shred itself prematurely.

I hear only good things about the conversion. I'm no mechanic, but how would a belt ever be prefferable to a gear? (Not taking the P%$S, interasted in hearing why)

You can get the kit from Brisitsh 4wd for around $700 my belt was ok so i just got the normal kit with new tensioner pully and crank pulley i think plus the belt. The full kit includes all new pulleys i think and a new front cover. Matt

OK thanks guys and yes he paid 400 for the lights they are the new LED type.
I dont mind the single cab , however dually would be nice. Was even thinking about putting a sleeper cab behind single cab. Shorten the tray a little.
I have a 2YO baby, so this is why I am tossing around ideas. Sleeper cab would mean mum and bubs can have a sleep whilst travelling.
