Bonnet locked cable snapped battery flatt

Hey everyone, I’ve been looking for an answer as to how to get under my bonnet. People say pop it with a pry bar! That didn’t work! Has anyone got any ideas please at this stage I’ll take anything!

Vehicle is a 2002 Range Rover L322 TD6

I read on FullFatRR forum that if you pop one of the side repeater lights out, you can charge the battery through those leads. I haven't tried it nor have I checked the wiring diagrams.

Unlikely that would help you get the bonnet open.

Where has the cable snapped? If near the lever, opening the door might get you access to the cable.

That's an interesting one. If the lights are driven from the BCM with a MOSFET then in theory you could charge through the MOSFET body diode.

Certainly my experience with the L319 has been unless you have a robust charger the car enters a boot loop. As you charge the computers try and boot up. If the charger can't support the load it pulls the voltage down until everything shuts down again. Lather rinse and repeat.

My experience was I needed > 5A to get the car to boot, the computers would then shut down and allow the battery to charge. I wouldn't want to poke that much current through a body diode.
With a small charger I had to disconnect the battery to get enough juice into it to allow the car to boot properly.

Bummer about the bonnet cable.
I did this successfully on a Disco 4.

REMOVE GRILLE: used a stiff plastic handle of a kitchen spatula push down the Grille Release Tabs
Use plastic as you may scratch the bonnet paint.
It is fiddly but can be done with perseverance
Once the Grille is out, I managed to get the passenger side bonnet holder release to open by pulling on the cable.
the driver's side was more difficult. from memory, i could not tug on the cable.
I ultimately needed to unscrew the bonnet catch and the alarm holder got in the way, but it did come free.
My Root Cause was not a broken cable, but that the cable has a junction box on the Passenger side. The junction box had come open and the cable had popped out. I cable tied the box shut.

The L322 grille has tabs on the slam panel where it is screwed down. Not accessible with the bonnet closed.

Most reported cable breaks on the L322 are behind the release handle in the cabin ! Have you checked there ? sometimes just a pair of pliers will suffice. Use an OEM cable only, aftermarkets cables have not been a good option.
