On a recent trip from Perth to Kalbarri and return I noted some GAP tool temps etc. Economy was actual from fuel bowsers.

The forward trip north had a slight south westerly tail wind and was also on the flat Indian Ocean Rd to Geraldton.
The return trip had a mild southerly headwind and was on the Brand Highway 1 which has a few rolling hills.

Sat on 110 once away from Perth and had a solar panel on the roof bars.

Ran quite a bit cooler than when pulling the brick.

Car has Cambos remap and trans massage to the 2016 3.0L TDV6 8 speed (approximates the RRS version at 700 Nm)

I really don't know why you bother with all that rubbish Gavin. I never check economy except to moan when pushing into those easterlies in the morning. As for checking turbo temps!!!! There's enough to worry about with engines liable to cease working at any time or gear shifts giving up shifting without that worry. Or even worse, drivers like you watching their little play thing gauges instead of watching the road.....
But I know you have nothing better to do with your time these days so keep the Gap tool plugged in. :)
Cheers.

At least I don't waste everyone's time winging about the possibility of an engine failure and moving to a lesser marque.

Thats some pretty good temps, both the engine and trans temps are ideal. Hard to believe they run that cool when towing a house

Me thinks that transmission remap just went up in value. They are really good values when towing. Nice one Gavin!

I don't think he was towing.... unless it's me that wasn't paying attention[bighmmm][biggrin]

Good pick up - that would explain the good ATF temps….and fuel economy.

Did not consider Gavin goes anywhere without the brick behind him. [emoji3]

Well spotted.

So those engine oil temps are a bit high - I hope Gavin is not running 5W-dumbass…….🤣

At least I'm not the only one who has a 'whinge' about it Gavin, absolute disgrace that new engines can't be bought if the worse happens despite good servicing etc. Anyway, although I've put a deposit on a Tojo I'm still looking at a Defender.... :)
Don't forget to keep your eyes on the road at least part of the time whilst driving.

They don't run that cool. This trip was without the house - it was the first opportunity for a Kalbarri visit without the brick.

Yep I though engine oil was a little high too - always been that way, and I'm assuming there is only one engine oil temp sensor.

Re dumbass - I did ask Dazza some time ago, but can't for the life of me remember the answer. On balance, with the amount of towing and country trips we do, I'm leaning towards the 5-40 option if not already in place.

Believe it or not, there are few manufacturers who actually supply new engines these days. Possibly due to prohibitive cost and in many cases it is uneconomic to buy a complete assembly when your own block/head assy can be reconditioned.

In the D3/D4 case, it seems to me that it would be far better to have one's own engine reco'ed with the latest updated crankshaft (same as new Ford Ranger ????) and the mods to the conrods, etc.

Turbos, for example, can be reco-ed at very reasonable cost these days by many specialists across Aus, and depending on the klms of one's engine at failure time, it would not be worthwhile nor cost effective by doing the cyl heads, fuel pump, injectors, egr's etc etc which you are paying for with a complete engine assy.

the temps are not high, but agree with 5w-dumbass.

in general you will find its often the other way round, a ford 2.4 complete long motor for a Defender is round 11K, locally it will cost more to get it rebuilt.
a 3.0 toyota hilux long motor again is round 11K
both readily available
